American Gangster Censored! Wtf!

I just saw American Gangster at SF World Cenima, it was a good movie would have been great if it wasn't freaking censored!!! I mean what the heck!! If I knew that it was gonna be censored, then I would have not paid 140 thb to see it. They show naked laides preeping and packing herion, people preeping the syringe and preeping their arm to shot up herion, but when it comes to showing the needle touching the arm the blur it out. They blur someone pointing a gun to someone's head, but yet the scene they show the guy with a huge hole in his head, it doesn't take a genius to know what just happened.

It was not only unnessacry but very very very annoying. I mean they already censor smoking, drinking, and guns on TV which I can tolerate, but to cenosr it on movies is the last straw. We have to pay money to see a good movie, and to see it censored by the Thai government is outragous! What good is a rating system if they are going to censor it anyway. If they want to censor a movie to what they think is approiate for me to see, then they should either pay us to watch it or show it for free.

I would rather have them ban a movie completely then, paying money to see a censored version!

Rambo 4 comes out in March. I'm sure 95% of the movie will be blurred, cause my friend who saw it in the States, told me its one of the most violent movie's he'd seen in a while!

If you watch Banglamung TV news you can see dead bodies chopped up by motor accidents and scattered over the road or the police moving some dead guys head to show the bullet wound. (No kissing though. )

If its real then its fine to show, but not make believe - thats thai logic!!

There has been a marked increase in the "pixelation" of foreign films here over the past year. It seems mainly targeted at extreme violence, rather than say language/drug use/nudity/sex. I didn't see "American Gangster" here, saw it in the U.S.A., but as the OP says, it doesn't take a genius to understand what happened. Check out "Sweeney Todd..."

Will be interesting to see how they deal with "No Country for Old Men" and the weapon of choice for the assassin?

It wouldn't bother me either if I knew about it before I saw the movie. And if it was only a few seconds then why bother with the blurring right? I mean, I paid to see it and expected to see the oringinal version, after all thats what the movie experience is about right?

American Gangster was partly shoot in Thailand (Chiang Mai) too :-) ..and its interesting to see what happened with the shop at Kad Luang after the shooting, suddenly a total renovation, guess they skimmed some nice dollars for that 3-sec scene in the movie :-)

I prefer the 35mm film prints on a big screen. Pretty comfortable seats too.

I am surprised that the OP didn't realize that there is censorship in the theaters of LOS. Pretty much all SEA countries censor movies. There are over 400 officers assigned to go to theaters and make sure that they are screening the "approved" version of a film in BKK alone. I always get a cheap bootleg or download a screener of any movie I want to enjoy when I'm in SEA. 140 baht would have gotten you 2 DVDs why waste it in a theater.

In Alexander, Rosiario Dawson's character was shown in full nudity for like 5 mins, and it wasn't censored. In 300 there showed some nudity and it wasn't censored. This is why I didn't think American Gangster would be censored. And yeah I could've spent the money to by the pirated DVD, as a matter of fact I did and it was a bad copy, which is why I saw it in the theater.

American Gangster has been released in the US on DVD in unrated form. You should be able to find a pirated copy of an original US copy of the film on DVD. In my experience if the movie is out on DVD in the US you can find a verbatim, minus the bonus material, copy of a DVD. It is when you pick up DVDs that are still in theaters in the US that you get "Cam" versions of varying quality. I know what you mean about shoddy pirate DVDs. Last batch I bought, I ended up with 2 proper copies of commercial releases, 3 watchable, 2 semi-watchable, and 1 with no English audio track. It's the chance you take buying bootlegs. And censorship in LOS is a bit strange. They show nudity but blur the needle entering the arm? Considering that you can go to Patpong and see some of the most depraved acts you can imagine, it doesn't make much sense to a logical thinker. In LOS it's just a reality you have to get used to.
