Apartment Suggestions Near Bts 7000 Baht Or Less

I posted this on the accomodation forum but wasn't sure if this is a better place to post it

Also I am just doing research right now, I'm not moving until May 31 2008. I am 33 Male Farang and will be coming on a student visa and attending a Thai language school located next to Asoke BTS, however I don't need to be right at Asoke. From my research and price range it seems Ekamai may be the closest I can get which is fine. Initially I'd like a short lease; to make sure I like the place and area then would be willing to have a longer term lease up to a year if the price is reasonable. Here are my preferences:

Near BTS I would consider under 800 meters close enough. I don't mind walking but do want it to be considered 'walking distance'

Has a mattress, A/C, refrigerator and hot water

Internet available

Occupied by Thai University students and others who would be receptive to practicing Thai with me but which is Farang friendly. I'm moving to Thailand for various reasons chief being to study Thai so I'd like to live in a place with at least some Thai University students. I don't want to live in a predominantly Farang place. I can already read, write and speak Thai at an intermediate level if that makes a difference.

I don't care about a pool, gym, cable TV or other amenities. The simpler the better. Studio is fine but not a hole in the wall.

I read about KTA Mansion at 14/1 Soi Barbos 2, Sukhumvit Soi 42 and it seemed to meet my criteria but have been told it is predominantly occupied by Farang and Japanese does anyone know the approximate ratio of Thai tenants there or another place that meets my criteria?

sounds to me as if its the ramkhamheng area you should be looking at.

many cheap condos etc for rent aound the 5000 baht per month range. plus many thai students living in the area, its across the road from the university, plus there are a fair few japanese koreans etc going to abac which is also in the area, at the back of the football stadium.

which school are you going to, utl (times square between sukhumvit sois 12 & 14) or piammitr (jasmine place corner of sukhumvit soi 23)? both of these are served by asoke bts.

if you choose to live in ramkamheng area you can get the boat to either asok pier (suk soi 21)and get any bus heading up asoke to yaek asok (asoke intersection) right next to asoke bts or get the boat to taa rua nana chart (nana international pier) sukhumvit soi 15. you can either walk the 10 minutes it will take you to reach sukumvit road, turn left and go over the pedestrian footbridge and you are right at the times square building, or you get a motorcycle taxi, there are plenty available at the pier, and pay 10 baht to the mouth of the soi ( pak soi).

you say you can already read thai, so you will have no problem finding many, mee hong wang hay chaw ( have room for rent)signs in the ram area.

the boat takes about 20 to 25 minutes to go from bang kapi, stopping at the mall ban kapi, wat klang, maha thai, ram university, wat noi and the last one the mall ram 3, before reaching klong tan. cost is i think 16 baht each way.

any other questions send me a pm.

Forget Ramkhamhaeng, though you can get a place there for 1,500 or less. Go up to Ratchada, past Rama 9. Many places for 3000 - 6000. Many have pool, cable, internet, restaurant with room service, mini mart, massage, sauna, etc. You are 2 stops from the Sukhumvit/Asoke station on the subway. Ramkhamhaeng is a little student ghetto, with all the noise and crowded streets you'd expect from being next to a major university.

That is one thing I forgot to consider. I'm not really into the college party scene though that doesn't seem big in Thailand. I realize I'm not going to have the peace and quiet of the countryside but reducing noise if possible is another consideration. To my surprise a friend told me there are some apartments in my price range near Asoke though they are very small typically around 25 Sq meters but that's bigger than my apartment now in San Francisco so I think it would be fine. Rgs I will go going to Piammitr. I would be able to read the signs that say มีห้องว่างให้เช่า mee hong wang hay chaw. Thanks for the tips.

Sukhumvit soi 50 (big Tesco Lotus on the corner) has dozens of places and a BTS station.
