I have to say that it must be some Thai thing to open airports before they are ready to accommodate passengers.

My beef isn't with something as irrelevant as meals, it's with the ground transfers in Samui.

Last time was a doozy. I arrived with my sister and there was no one to advise passengers about which mini bus to take and, in fact, there were no drivers about in the parking lot. I wandered over to the information desk and the man spoke as if there were drivers, and as if there were some coordination. In the end, my sister and I sat in a mini van for a while and then I went out and found that they were going to wait for the NEXT FLIGHT to arrive to get more passengers to Lamai. You can imagine my reply to this...so they put us on the van to Chaweng, which then proceeded to Lamai.

There was no organization and had I been less familiar with the procedure (or how it used to be) I would have sat there for another 45 minutes to see if there were enough people to get the van moving (I was told that there had to be at least 10 people going to Lamai for the bus to leave!).

Interestingly, the vans were not the "Airport buses" used in the past, although they were sitting in the parking lot. These were some mono-color vehicles from some real estate company or something....

This whole thing makes the Lomprayah transfer look like the well-oiled machine it is.

Thanks to some of the Members here, they have similar problems with Bangkok Air & post them here...

there are other people, which dont understand the situation. they probably dont fly, they just use the ferry orthe Train, because its to expensive for them...

Some cheap People, also make fun with Problems & bad experiences of others, NICE people, very nice People, probably from england or the us...

Instead of trying to understand, what I mean (& others with their Problem with Bangkok Airways), they try to make JOKES with all this.

Yeah, i dont understand the rudeness of this cheap People...

And, even my english is bad, I speak 3 other Languages fluent, and the Fellas, who makes jokes about my english, they probably JUST speak english, woooow....

:o ....woooow,

do you mean cheap people with cheap shirts(f.e.like on the picture with the BKK Air meal) ??

Why didn´t you take the risk long time before, and build and operate the Airport on Samui?

For sure, you would offer flights for nearly free.....

I think this kind of behaviour is just a reminiscence of colonial mentality ...

English is now an international mean of exchange, so it does not belong exclusively to english (british) people and this is impossible to fathom for a certain type of person ...

Please keep on posting, do not care !

Sorry folks, I fail to see what the level of fluency in English has to do with Bangkok Airways, which is what this thread is supposed to be about.

Ok, from the moment they started to do their own catering (in the new building beside the airport) the food is lousy, the seats are small and they don't seem to have much beer on board but can you give me the name of one airline anywhere in the world who does not charge you for changing to another flight in case you miss the one you've booked for? I fly regularly to BKK with the early morning flight but I'm never sure what time I have finished my business. Never had a problem in taking an earlier or later flight back to Samui than the one booked.

There service is super.

It's true, since they staerted to do their own catering, the Food on the Planes has got worse, without a doubt & farang55 is also correct with regards to changing the Flights & the minimal problems you get with them, that is a definate thumbs up for BA..

every airline company has bad days when everything goes wrong.. some times its a technical problem sometimes its the weather etc...

please lets not loose proportions here.. the whole thread started out with a disapointment from the food served. is this the only indication of an airline quality??

it seems that some people have expectations that an airline company must be a delux resort in the sky :o with a private escort service on the ground....

Airline companies are transportation companies. they are not a royal dining facility nor are they a flying wine cellar. and those arilines who offer that service usualy brand it as business or first class and charge accordingly.

for the rates that BKK charge around 150 usd per flight they are giving a great service.:

I have been flying in the pas years on many airlines and i can sfaely say that BKK airways is one of the best companies in the world.

I can understand the frustration of those who had a personal problem but this is no indication of the over all quality.

It seems some of our members have been flying BKK for so long have forgoten what its like to fly other companies. or what its like to land in some sh@@ty airport.

even with delays and other issues BKK airways provide an execelent service and hopefully with more new airlines coming in it will become easier to compare the level of service.

I am very sorry, but if I look at the price of the ticket Samui-BKK, I automatically expect the trip to be of very very high quality ...

I know of "cheap shit", but do not want to experience the expensive one ...

By the way, I am not russian and do not like to play roulette !

But this is the point that's being made, it isn't actually THAT exspensive, it's $150 USD..

If you want cheaper options, use AA out of Surat or if you want cheaper than that, take the Bus, it really is that simple.

Ok it's more expensive that the domestic Air Asia routes for example in Thailand but please let's not compare BA with AA because it isn't possible & would be unfair to both Airlines who work on completely different levels with regards to pricing, service, clientele..

not sure you got the point , its not cheap at all and as mentioned earlier they charge around 360 usd for 1.5 hr flight which is a rip off and just down to the fact they have a monopoly.so its large fares and generally a crappy service. Maybe when u think of people with families flying then you can comprehend the cost factor. Or is it all about only wanting high paying tourists to samui..

nothing to do with the airport either ends just fact it is expensive,i spend a large amount of my time flying and they are so full of themselves as a boutique airline, because people have little choice. I hope that changes and they are forced into some kind of competition which can only be to the benefit of all customers, rich or poor. If its cheap fine we shut up but while its expensive why should we..

Ok, we'll agree to disagree about whether it's cheap or not but you can forget the changes that you hope for as rightly or wrongly, they do have the monopoly & until that changes, there's no need for them to drop their prices, unfortuantely, of course... :o

cheap??? cheap for what??? we definatlry need to disagree!!!

in most places around the world flying in a regular airline for a flight of 45-60 minutes is around 200USD one way.

the concection between London and most western european cities is 90-150 pounds..(180-300usd)

so the price that bangkok airways charge is more then reasonable. its even cheap considering they have a monopoly.

and if you book it through one of the majour agencies in Europe its even cheaper.

they give you a private witing lounge with free beverages and snacks, hosteses that smile, they allow you tochange times and days with out charging extra, the planes are new and well maintained. so they are charging you for this transport and service.

As per the cost factor mentioned above. regarding families...... if you cant afford to take your kids flying then change your holiday destination..or use a more economic transportation such as the train and ferry... (The kids will love the journey)

bangkok airways does not need to support all those who feel like taking the family flying to Samui but realy cant afford it.. :D

you are conveniently overlooking the fact that bkk air is more expensive than flights to most capitals in the region, not to mention most domestic destinations of comparable length.

As you are conveniently disrgarding the following facts:

1.Samui is a private and not a public airport and as such someone has to pay for the cost of keeping a nice new airport in samui so when ever you feel like flying you can.

2. They declare themselves as a botique airline not a low fair charter company.

3. most regular airlines flying out of main airports are charging very similer prices. so we can not compare charter rates with regular airline rates.

4. they offer low rates on the first and last flights it is a lot cheaper then he regular rate. so those who wish to fly for less can do so.

5. this whole thread started out by someone who was disapointed with the snack they serve.

they are boutique so they can charge more but provide substandard fare? im sorry free orange drink doesn't cut it.

they are late 3 out of five times i fly them, and we are talking about samui. but that is my personal experience and i am being conservative with this ratio.

As for the airport, i do not see it as an improvement, at least not for my purposes.

but the main point here is one person gave his opinion, and people jump up to tell him he is little better than an idiot.

I am flying on the first flight to samui tomorrow, and we will see if i miss another seatran to kpg. it would be the third in a year.

i dont like bkk air, but they are the only carrier who meets my needs, and the reason i dislike them most is because they are very aware they are the only game in town.

As for thai, we will see, if they fit my time constraints, then i will take them.

As for the airport, i saw them build it, i haven't seen them maintain it. last i was in samui there were broken beer bottles on the floor in the lounge, and they were still there when i boarded my flight an hour later

perhaps you have fared better, but i have not.

that siad freinds flying other domestic routes and to singapore have been very happy so perhaps i am continuously unlucky.

Oh, you obviously know it all (international traveling and intra Asia),you even insinuate what people can or cannot afford with the silly :D added, so no point to further discussion, you obviously don't consider any other angle than your own. No comment needed further from me. People make some comments to this post in good spirit and either get shot down or abused. As I said its easy to do in a forum.

Travellers Flights Taxes

1 adult(s) x (5,600.00 + 1,810.00) = 7,410.00 THB

total for all travellers 7,410.00 THB

Thai Airways off the net. I payed the same with Bangkok Air with resident card discount. So not as expensive as I first thought, compared to PG.

it is true that as a private company , thay can charge as they want, and it seems like their planes are always full.. on the other side, a lot of people choose other destinations (i.e. phuket) because of the cheaper airfares, affecting samui's tourism. but it seems as they are not the only ones. hotels, taxis, they all do it. so who's fault is it?

According to Skytrax, Bangkok Airways are rated at 4 stars.

http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/PG.htm

Not bad for an airline that is overpriced, has lousy food, dispenses vinegar, is late 80% of the time, and has rude flight attendants.

They have the same rating as Thai Airways. http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/TG.htm

Thai Air Aisa has 3 stars. http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/AK.htm

Nok Air has 3 stars. http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/DD.htm
