Vit77
I'm gonna go to Bkk on October, 1st. Are there any chess players there? Pubs? Or maybe personal games?
paulfr
I am a chess player. I have not played for several years, but I was pretty good at one time. Studied many of the master games. My favorite is the match between Fischer and Black (??) for the US championship, when Bobby was 13 yrs old. He sacrificed his Queen and got 3 pieces and a pawn in exchange and won the game. Quite dramatic and brilliant. I am in the Sukhumvit area. PM or email me.

I rather studied games of masters who lived before 2nd World War (my favourite is Akiba Rubinstain who was too poor to challenge the World's Master (even he won with him on many tournaments), but of course I remember Bobby's game. If I am in Bkk I will PM or e-mail u Do u play 'GO' (wei-qi)?
farangene
I have never played chess seriously or very well. However, I noted a sign in Reillys pub on Silom that there is a chess club that meets on the 3rd floor there periodically (weekly I think). fw1
The Bangkok Chess Club meets on Thanon Silom at the Irish Pub below the BTS Station. There are some good players there, going all the way up to FM and IM level. I used to play for Luton and Bedfordshire myself. I too was an admirer of Rubinstein but more so Nimzowitch. I'm a bit rusty but can still play the French Defense pretty well.
Harmonica
Chess Clubs in Chiang Mai and Phuket? A visit to the Bangkok Chess Club's website reveals "Home Restaurant" as a CM chess club site. Is this club still extant? Any others functioning and/or aborning? Much appreciated.
