Working In Thailand On Singapore Contract ?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am currently working in Singapore for a Multinational company covering the whole of Asia. I am married to a Thai for a number of years and am thinking of moving to Thailand and work from there. My company has already the maximum number of foreigners employed in the Thailand office and therefore there is no option for me to work on a local Thai contract.

The question I have is, can I work and live in Thailand on a Singapore employment contract, based on the fact that I am married with a Thai? If so what visas and permits would I need to obtain to legally live and work in Thailand?

If this is an option (under kind of expat contract) where would I be paying income tax, would that be in Singapore or in Thailand?

I hope someone can help me out with this.

Thanks

You can not work in Thailand without a Thai work permit - marriage makes no difference. Have no idea of how tax rates compare.

Is your company prepared to work illegally ie pay you in Singapore (much less tax :o ) and you work out of the Thai office without WP etc?

If its a name MNC I doubt it.

I am in Singapore too and when offered the regional post I hummed and arred as I had a much more lucrative offer in the UK. I went to talk to my manager and the AP VP in Bangkok and they offered to move the position to Bangkok but I said no - if I was taking it then it was Singapore (I have worked in Thailand before and I know my self control is useless)

Can you go freelance?

Taxes much less in Singapore - think of one months salary as yearly tax as a general guide.

Bonus pays your tax bill and more

Open your company in Thailand, and get them to contract you.

You will pay more tax than in Singapore.

I think tax difference would depend on setup and lots of parameters.

SG pretty much have no tax deductions while TH have them all :D

Tax rates not THAT different either especially not after the latest adjustment i.e. first 150k tax free. 500k deduction to 3y pension scheme. Small companies paying 20% (less than 5M reg. capital) instead of 30% etc :o

I say all in similar or favorable conditions as freelance in TH :D

At least reasonable car & housing prices compared to SillyP :D
