Clearance takes 6-8 weeks as they have to be returned to the issuing bank in Thailand.
jingjingna Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 Hi geoffphuket, That is where I am hoping to open the account. I don't mind waiting 6-8 weeks, as long as the job's done!

I have an on-line account with Nationwide International in the Isle-Of-Man and can thoroughly recommend them. http://www.nationwideinternational.com/ You shouldn't have any problems, although if the cheque is for a large sum, you'd best to send it courier rather than rely on the Thai postal system. geoffphuket
Ubon9 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I personally don't see the point of opening an off-shore account and send a cheque (this will only trace back to thailand expecially if you work or do business in thailand.
PennyFarthing123 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Can you open an account there without actually being there? When I opened my New Zealand account I had to go there to open it. Also when I wanted to add my husband to the account he had to go there to have his name added. From past experience you also should check what charges the bank tacks on when accepting a foreign money check. When we were in the US the banks there charged an arm and a leg in fees.
