Feeling Crowded?

Recommended Posts

According to the United Nations the world population will go from 6.7 billion now to 9.2 billion in 2043 http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs//2007/pop952.doc.htm

A couple of interesting points on making the projections. One they feel average births per woman will go down and there will be a very large drop in births in the least developed countries. From 4.63 in 2010 to 2.5 in 2050 children per woman. If this reduction does not take place the population will increase much faster.

It would appear that one of the major challenges ahead is feeding all of these people, and providing housing for them.

Maybe those opposed to Genetically Modified food will change their mind when they consider the alternative may be starvation.

Move over a bit and make a little more room please.

Population increases are in the 3rd world, sub Saharan Africa despite its ongoing wars, droughts and pandemics comes in tops for population growth.

The UK population would have fallen if it were not for immigrants from eastern Europe over the last few years its the same story with many developed countries.

Thanks for that link, which is for the 2006 revision. I checked and saw that the 2008 revision has not been released yet. I am surprised that the world's population will increase that much, in spite of continuing decreases all over the world in the fertility rates.

As previously predicted, the developed countries will only increase in numbers if they receive immigrants from less developed countries. Ageing (spelled without an e in American English) is a huge challenge, since "in the more developed regions, the population aged 60 or over is expected to nearly double (from 245 million in 2005 to 406 million in 2050), whereas that of persons under age 60 will likely decline (from 971 million in 2005 to 839 million in 2050)."

How does this affect Thailand? The birth rates have already tumbled, and the medicine is available for the elderly (and HIV+ patients) to live far longer. Nearly an entire generation of younger Thais have fled the small villages for the big cities, and are not likely to return to take care of grandparents or parents. There already are far fewer grandchildren than there were 40 years ago.

Related data for Thailand, on that UN website, show that fertility per woman decreased from 6.2 children in 1967, to only 2.0 in 1995 - a drop of more than two-thirds, and probably still declining. Offhand, the most striking difference in childbearing seems to be that Thai women have practically stopped giving birth after about age 30, compared to their grandmothers.

Over population is certainly the root of all other problems the world is facing, but by the time it's apparent to everyone it will be too late...

Here's a riddle for all you TV geniuses: if pond scum doubles in size every day and it takes 100 days to cover the pond, on which day will the pond be half covered?

After the 2012 meteor strike between the Caspian and Black Seas, which will split open the earths mantle and asphyxate 90% of the worlds population with sulphrous gases, these mathematical formalae will mean zilch. Info is from the Plejarans, our common ancestors. Plejarans? see www.theyfly.com. Clues.. Mayan calender ends in 2012. Psychologist Snow forward hypnotized 10,000 Uni stiudents, and in his book, Future Dreams, he noted 90 % could not reincarnate due lack of a body, and 90% died in their present life of asphyxation. So why, you may ask, if the Plejarams are 1500 years ahead of us in tech, they wont intervene. They were asked this by B. Meier, and the respnse was that this is a Universal Law and they would not/could not therefore, alter this course of events.

Sorry for quoting but necessary in this case.

quite often i used to get drunk with Plejarams when visiting their outposts in order to participate in martial arts conquests. basically Plejarams are sissies because of their skinny and short stature and their vulnerable backbones. but when it comes to boozing they are worthy opponents and that goes for their females too. the latter have four tits. two in front and two at their backs which enables them to nurse quadruplets at the same time. that Plejarams are technically ahead is a fairy tale. they still use nuclear fusion to generate energy and for transportation they use sad copies of Volkswagen Golf without power steering and power brakes.

I think you mis-read Plejarams for Bjorans. Cardassians are a pretty miserable lot though - a plate of Gach washed down by blood wine and they puke everywhere. Wussies.
