Dear All ,

We are from Doi Mea Salong in Chiangrai Area , we grow alot of vegetable and do not know where to sell and sent it too . Currently we have about 500kg of ginger and no taker for it in the local market . After a week we could only sell 50 kg of it at the local market . Last time the major problem here is to get the product out to major town area like CR which we could solve now and the major problem is to whom to sell to ? Urgent help needed . Thanks .

Step One find out what they are selling it for in Talaad Thai in BKK, there are two other massive markets that I am sure forumites will help with the names. Talaad Thai has a website and puts prices of some produce up on it, but for ginger I don't know.

Step Two Try to work out where the majority of ginger that is supplying that market is coming from at the moment. If it is Chiang Mai, then deduct 2 bt/kg for transport and another 1-2bt/kg for trader. If the majority was say coming from South of BKK add these prices on to give you an approx market price for Chiang Rai.

This will give you a rough price to bargain around.

Step Three

Get a thai you trust to go into Chiang Rai market and ask questions

Where do they buy their ginger from?

How much do they pay for it?

How do they sell it for?

How much is sold in a day in Chiang Rai's main market?

If your Thai's good enough you can ask the questions yourself, just don't tell them you have heap to sell either.

From the main market in Chiang Rai, if they do not sell that much in a day, a trader would most likely take it off your hands and then ship it to Chiang Mai or BKK, and that's where you will have to decide do you want to squeeze a few more baht by doing the leg work again in Chiang Mai, it would probably pay off in the long the run to go to Chiang Mai.
