Yes, this may end up being a dangerous post, I know.

We've covered pizza and hamburgers and breakfast, but what about sandwiches?

Yes, I've eaten at Amazing Sandwich--around seven years ago, and promised myself never to go back. Completely ordinary, nothing special. Anything changed?

Subway simply sucks. The bread may be made in house but maybe they should consider outsourcing it. And for that price, I'd like better quality.

I guess I'm looking for the subs (grinders, hoagies, heroes) that I can get at really great delis in the states. I've pretty much written them off here in LOS as impossible to produce, and get my fill when I go back to Los Angeles. When I want a sandwich here I have to make it myself.

Any recommendations?

Yes, I recommend you spread the butter thinly.

Too much butter is bad for your cholesterol levels

No worries on the cholesterol, friend--well within spec! Beautiful, in fact... the doc told me to eat more bacon and eggs.

I have not found one place with a whole bunch of good sandwiches, but for hot ones, the Duke's are all pretty darn good -especially the Pastrami Rueben, for cold ones probably Bake and Bite have some of the best. Right now, they are selling a Bacon Avocado on wheat that is excellent. I can't wait for the next one. :o

Bake and Bite does a good sandwich.

However, I think there's a difference in expectation depending on whether you were born west, or east, of the atlantic. In the UK we live on anaemic sandwiches kept in chilled cabinets and sold along with crisps and a coke for lunch. The Yanks know how to make a sandwich. Chunks of meat and gravy in between thick slices of bread often served hot.

You can buy a Brit style cold ham sandwich in 7/11 for 18 baht or go to Bake and Bite to get something delicious. Saying that a 7/11 sandwich eaten at 3am after a few beers with a cold strawberry milk tastes pretty good.

I went to Amazing Sandwich for over a year, intermittently, and was fairly impressed. But paying extra for rye bread was a disappointment. Bake and Bite, however, makes the best I have ever eaten. Loaded is right - Americans do sandwiches better, even if the Earl of Sandwich invented the genre. However, if you cannot find strawberry milk after a few beers at 3 am, I recommend chocolate milk.

Stone me! You must have had quite a few beers to think that a 7/11 sandwich comes close to even the worst the UK can offer :o . Actually, although nowhere near up to US standards the British sandwich has been improving steadily since people like Pret a Manger got in on the act.

Beer, strawberry milk, 7/11.... it makes my blood run cold to even think about it.
