What Is Your Favorite Thai Food.

Featured Replies

what is your favorite thai food. what kind of thai food shall we recommend for forieners.

penang curry is my favorite, but I would recommend pad thai for visitors as it is very popular and not to spicy for most farangs (unless they come from SCal and can handle spice, then tom yam soup)

my fav thai food is papaya salad and kaeng plaa kup kluay lai mamung or fish with green banna and mango. but these are foods which i have made myself.

i bought kra pow in 7-11 stores and that was spicy as hel_l but great tasting. normally i just eat street food as i find authentic thai food hard to find in tourist areas, even if i ask for phet phet.

For me too many to list.

For foreigners probably start out with something that are not too spicy.

satay-chicken or beef on skewers, egg rolls/spring rolls, fish cakes

Clear/broth/ soup

rice soup

fried rice

noodles

too many to list too.

Pad Ka Praow paet .... can eat almost anytime favorite standby with fried egg yum yum..... oh and a cold beer....

Kwae Tiew Nam Tok/ Boat Noodles

Panang

Pad Si Ew

I could live off of those three foods for pretty much the rest of my life. They make up a huge chunk of my diet already!

Ghang P'eat (watery orange pork curry with peas) with deep fried small fish and fluffy rice.

Just hot enough to taste great.

Larb Bpla duk

Khao pad guung (from my local stall. mmmmm)

Lunch Time now me thinks :o

Paneng Nuea - (mentioned already)

Gaeng Massaman -

Gaeng Pet Phet -

Kanom Chine sai Yaa Pla Tu (Tuna, Geang Kiu Wan)

Tom Yum talay - (pla tu - goong)....

Tom Chued Moo Sab Tohu (Plamuk, Taengkwa Ja Sai)

Yum Kai Jiau Maa -

...and these are just the epicenter...

Yes almost impossible to select favourites from hundreds but....

- any larb (pork, chicken, duck, crab etc), but hold the spare parts, pork rind etc

- somtam - generally prefer standard 'somtam Thai', but if the crab is fresh..... Variations with carrot, pomelo etc, make a nice change. Extra points for charcoal grilled chicken, squid etc as a side.

- nua yang nam tok - warm 'waterfall' beef salad

- khao soi - curry egg noodle dish par excellence, arguably better than Katong Laksa - best I've had was in Luang Prabang, followed closely by Chiang Mai, followed much further back sadly by Bangkok. *ruffles feathers* :D

- anything with black bean - more of a Chinese than Thai dish perhaps

- anything on a sizzling platter :o

- mud crab with black pepper - hard to beat

- just about any fried, grilled, steamed whole fish (snapper, grouper, etc) with the usual lime, chili, nam pla, garlic, peanut, ginger, soy etc - very rarely disappointed with whole reef/marine fish dishes, though sometimes fresh water fish, aquacultured fish, and undersized fish can be forgetable. Carp shmarp.

- jub chai - vegetable soup with pork

- yum kai dow - warm salad with fried eggs, raw onion, tomato, coriander, chili, lime, greens etc - simple but delicious

- kana moo grob - stir fry pork, kale, chili

- Thai desserts - so many different ways to mix ice, water, sugar, coconut milk, water chestnuts, coconut agar jelly, gelatinous worm thingies, tropical fruits, sticky rice, etc etc, and of course the old i-tim :D - preferably hold the red beans, corn, taro, etc

So much more....

Surprisingly perhaps, I have yet to see a dish/dessert that uses Red Bull as an ingredient. Unless you consider vodka Redbull a meal. * runs off to patent "I'tim Kratingdaeng" *
