Got a collection of old, international stamps in perfect state and would like the lot to be valuated by an expert.

Any contacts or addresses in Bangkok ?

Also, some orginal edition, hard cover, original language (French) Tintin and Asterix albums ?

Thanks

sh

Re: The stamps. Would recommend Stanley Gibbons (company). Their web site "contact us" page only lists UK offices but they are in various other countries - guess you will need to email head office.

You need to trust any valuer 110% as they can easily remove or substitute stamps (which to untrained eyes are identical but would could have hugely different values)

I'm putting an inventory together of all the albums. All the asterix seem to be very first editions (starting in 1961). Checked on a Belgian auction website, some of these pieces went for an amazing 2000 Euro. But I have no idea where to go with these books in Bangkok. If they're really worth that price, I might as well pay some overweight and birng them along the next time I travel to Europe....

As for the stamps, it's a bit more delicate. Like you say, it's quite difficult to control what the expert's been doing, unless you stay with him during the whole process, which could be time consuming.

Eur-Seree Collecting Co. Ltd., 1256/8 NakornchaiSri Road, Dusit, Bangkok 10300, Thailand.

Tel +66 2 243-1789, fax +66 2 243-4764 0r +66 2 669-2043

They have a huge auction coming up nest week: eurseree.com

Personally, I would do the valuation myself, if I thought they were worth more than 30,000 euros. I have some background in this, as I assisted my father in entering his collection into a database which he re-values on a quarterly basis. He specializes in the stamps of former British colonies, particularly those in the Pacific. He was a stamp dealer for a short time, and he will be turning over his collection to me within the next few years.

You can do your own valuation using the Scott stamp catalog: Scott's Catalog on DVD

re the books, if they are in fact first editions they could be very valuable. Condition is also important.

If i were you I'd put together an inventory and include as much details as possible. Take photos of the cover, the title page, the publishing history etc. And then send them all to a reputable first edition specialist such as Nigel Williams in London for appraisal and valuation.

Alternatively, I'll take them off your hands for 50 baht each . . . :o
