Since the Stone Age, it has been debated as to what makes a person into a homosexual.

A question for all you geniuses out there: is homosexuality also prevalent amongst mammals other than humans in the animal kingdom?

TS people do exist in all societies. In some they are invisible because of repression.

Beats me how many of the TV/TS I have seen in Thailand could possibly hide the fact in other societies, repression or not.

As to the cause? Well, consuming lots of soya products may be one cause, coupled with the more sympathetic culture and polluted drinking water. All 3 combined ends up with pink high heels.

From this BBC article we have one explanation.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7529227.stm

<snip>

A ratio of 10% to 20% of boys calling themselves transsexual in a provincial high school does seem very high, but Mr Sitisak assured me that in his experience it was not unusual.

Which brought up a question that has been rattling around my head ever since I first lived in Thailand seven years ago: Why do so many Thai men want to become women?

I asked Suttirat Simsiriwong, who became a campaigner for transgender rights after she was barred entry to a nightclub at an international hotel in Bangkok last year.

Poised, articulate and very feminine, it is hard to tell that she was not born a woman.

"Maybe the numbers of gays, of people with sexual identity issues, might be the same as in other countries," said Suttirat, "but because Thai society and culture tend to be very sweet, very soft, and the men can be really feminine, if we tend to be gay, many of us tend to be transgender."

<snip>

-----------

So does this sound right to you?

Thai culture, makes it easier for transgenders to "come out" and express themselves?

Or is it a case that they see it as a way out to avoid their masculinity ?

Or perhaps they want to belong in a group, have a sense of identity ?

Teenage rebelling /phase they are going through ?

Thais tell me 20 years ago the ladyboy phenomonen was almost non-existant. It is a modern trend.

Perhaps it is just a type of show off "fashion"

10-20% seems disproportionately high.

I think there’s something in the water.. I don’t drink it unless boiled. Now for some strange reason I want to go shoes shopping.. J/K J/K

The Don: But fact is a fact, ladyboy's a not female, no matter how you cut it. (or tuck it)

Funny thing is they don't give a brown shark what you think! :o

Lets all just be ourselves and enjoy life.

Don do ladymen say ka, krap or ka krap at the end of their sentences

Most folks in the West are still hung up on polarity, like there is no middle ground, only two opposite genders, anatomically and psychologically. No. Sexual orientation and attraction is a continuum, a spectrum on which even you may not be at the extreme end. Most of our Western thinking is shaped by a Church which is/was homophobic for no good reason.

I agree with peace on this, its how i explain sexuality to people. Lot of people just put people in named baskets and they have to be that it doesnt work.

Many moons ago the French explorers (ferang originates from french - ferangy - ferang) noted that 'in this strange land it was difficult to distinguish the men from the women'. So nothing to do with chemicals in the water or modern culture. Thais are an annomoly - odd ball -race :o

Maybe the Thais are just meeting the ever growing demand> there is an ever increasing number of lady boy bars in Pattaya so there is obviously a big demand :D

There are only 2 types of men in Pattaya: those that have done a lady boy, and liars. I am personaly a liar - i havent done a lady boy (well not this week :o )

All this talk about lady boys has got me thinking - i'm of to Simons Bar :D

I still don't get it either. Although with the increase in Middle Eastern tourists to the country there does seem to be increasing demand.

Another possible reason is that they avoid the military draft.

If I speak for Belgium 5 % of the population is gay, but the community in general remain intolerant, because some relegions see it as not" natural".In Thailand those people are accepted and they can do as they feel. Here the more female gays only dress up like females for "The Love Parade" very wellknown in berlin(germany) and other countries, but in daily life they try to hide, because like some did mention your chance on a job is nihil to name one fact.

Wrong way around.

French originates from ferengi, which originates from the Latin franca and Germanic Franke.

France got its name from the invading Franks and there's still a region in Germany called Franken.

The Thai word for the French - farangset -is a corruption of the word Francais and even our own word foreigner is a derivative.

I wonder how keen The Dons senses would be... ones a girl ones a boy....

Easy,

First pic is lady second is TG.

About the whole Farang thing, we white people are considered as a piece of fruit, called Guave.

A bit strange smelling and strange skin.

In North East they say: Bak Sii Daa.

Which means: Guava/Guave

Same in central Thai, farang it mean Guava/e

Whe white people are called a type of fruit that smells strange and have a strange skin.

Please do not believe the connection with the French.

The last bit's not correct.

1297, ferren, foreyne "out of doors," from O.Fr. forain, from L.L. foranus "on the outside, exterior," from L. foris "outside," lit. "out of doors," related to fores "door;" spelling altered 17c. perhaps by influence of reign, sovereign. Replaced native fremd. Sense of "not in one's own land" is first attested 1393. Okay, I meant a derivative from old French, which makes up half of English but was in fact a Latinised Frankish Germanic dialect.

If you sleep with a lady boy then you are a poof, no doubt about that, its a bloke, and if a bloke sleeps with a bloke then that means he is gay.

No if's or buts about it

With a boob job, the snip job and the adams apple removed it is darn hard to tell the difference. I've seen some really hot ones too. So, if they have had the 'works' done, does that mean you are a poofter for sleeping with, what is in effect, a woman?

Can't say they turn me on, but very easy to not tell the difference after a few beers in some cases.

A real man can tell the difference. Its not that hard

Then you need less steroids and more viagra :o

I gather there are plenty of queer mammals, so not just humans.

I watched 'I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry' on UBC the other night, and almost found myself siding with the gays against the persecution.

I saw too much of my biggotted self in that movie, but I still remain the same as far as katoeys are concerned..........sorry.

If a dog licks his own balls is that considered gay? or even if you licked your own?

A dog licks its own balls because it can. :o It's actually just one small vertebrae that stops humans from doing this, and I'm convinced that we will evolve more spinal flexibility and finally achieve this lofty goal.

When we do, there will probably be a lot of empty bars in the Kingdom.
