Giving Birth In Samui

Recommended Posts

So I went to bangkok hospital, because my friend use their package around B35000.-

But I should had to go to Nathon.

They only thinking money I think. Their equipment is new and good qualily, but human hospitality is ????

constraction started, so I have to birth sure, but the doctor said, if you take this test, you have to pay around B3000.- is this possible?

I have to say Yes, because my baby want to born now!

I ask staff, my friend use package, so I want to use your package also, but before I had not come check up here, so they don't have my record so I couldn't use package. and I ask cost for delivery, they cannnot say soon, after I entered delivery room, the staff said to my husbund, the cost will be around 140000.- for only delivery and stay 2nights.

It was too expensive for us. so he called thai-mother and she negotiatied , and then staff say around 50000.- for 2nights.

Before delivery I told to doctor I wantd to take tubal sterilization.

But the delivery cost was too high, so I decied take this another hospital.

When the doctor ask me you want to take this or not?

I say no, but doctor say, why you don't take?

You have already 3 children, so you are too enough,do you want to more?

I hated to speak doctors and nurses. they only think money, own commission. The doctor ask me personal things alot. but thai inter don't ask personal things at all.

next day evening, accounting staff come to see me, bring the bill, the bill was around 57000.-

she said if you want to stay until tomorrow morning, you have to pay more 20,000bath. We couldn't understand their cost. so I came back home only 24hours. I could walk, eat everything normal and baby was small(2600g) but very fine, so I could that. But if something happend,I don't want to think… after I went to thai inter for injection for baby.

This is a just my opinion, the doctor of thai inter, he is not so old but he have experience, he don't say a lot, the doctor bKK hosptal depend on data.

So before decide hospital, you should go some hospitals for using package.

Sorry for my poor English and hope understand.

Sounds like a terrible experience and seems to me from the posts that this hospital is money first and healthcare second, I did have this impression but never had to use it much (thank goodness). From what earlier post says that BKK hospital its supposed branch or head office in BKk does not even recognise it as a proper hospital gives great cause for concern to me. Its ok to have good hi tech equipment but without experience and the turnover of many patients with varying needs of emergency care, one does wonder. I should think maybe the board of the bangkok hospital in bangkok would be interested in such feedback. Sounds like just another rip off in Samui to go with the rest. For the lady that lost her baby , this is absolutely terrible and i do feel for you.

Another thing i could ad for all the worried parents to be, is that i just recently took my boy on a full check-up in Sweden. I wanted to make sure he had all the vaccinations Swedich kids get, so i brought the vaccination-book from samui-inter. Guess what, he had everything Swedich kids have+plus more!!! Some vaccine (japaneese desease) they dont even get in Sweden and other vaccins were the same but with a slightly different timeframe. The doctors in Sweden was actually surpriced that it was this good in Thailand. Not only did he had all the vaccins but it was also very good and properly documented so they did not even feel the need of testing what he have and not have.

Samui hospitals do deleiver a fair amount of babies every year. All of the hospitals. And most of the cases are succesful. Don´t worry to much!

That is the same in UK, midwives are in control of the natural birthing process, during the labour doctors only come in to read charts & make the big decisions if there is a problem. Makes sense tbh as a mw will be much more experinced in labour than a general medicine doctor & a specialist consultant will not be available at all times. My labour midwife (in uk) was bossing my consultant around (I was a high risk pregnancy so he was checking in on me more than usual) & he deferred to her (40 years) expereince on most everything . :o

My neighbor is giving birth right now (Thai+Norwegian) in Nathon.

Come back with result.

OK, 5am they got a baby girl with blue eyes.

Had to have a c-section, costs went up to 14.000 baht.

Private room had no vacancies.

Long wait in the big hall until 2pm until they got a private room.

The c-section took 15min.

Best question to ask the other hospitals if they can perform a c-section or they take you to Nathon.

Other question is if the "package" include a emergency c-section.

There´s no need for that question, they all do the c-sektion. And since the process requires REALLY superclean environment, i dont think anybody would ever be SENT to nathon for that one. Infact i am a bit shocked to hear they do that thing in Nathon, it is a really dirty place. I like the qualification of the staff over there, but let´s face it, it is a bit of a rat-whole. When my boy was in the respirator, they had a powerbreak! All doors to the ICU ws widely open and a nurse "pumped" air with someking of handtool in my boys mouth. They then asked us to change shoes before entering the ICU because it is a superclean area!! With door widely open! I was shocked over the big joke to call it a hospital, but i still say the doctors are the most qualified on the island. At the end of the day, they did save my boy.

In thailand for the next baby, i consider if i should actually ask around if they do natural birth somewhere! :o

All kidding aside, c-sektion seems to be a thing Thais (doctors and patients) prefer, while in my homecountry it is pretty much only done if something is wrong. Anybody else got this impression? :D

Totally, it has been discussed a few times int he family section. Seems that the doctor finds it more convienient!!!

Maybe it's about the money.

C-section in Bangkok in Bangkok hospital according to a friend of mine costs 40.000 baht+medicine.

But according to my friend who works with insurance at Bangkok hospital this is covered in their "package".

I'm having my checking ups in Bangkok Hospital and actually I'm satisfied. they don't want you to spend a lot of money, when I asked to make some extra test the doctor just looked at me and said there was no need as everything was OK according to previous tests.

re the prices for medicine, that it's much more expensive than in usual pharmacies....well, it's all over the  world. this is  a hospital, they re-sell  the medicine, noone forces you to buy it there, you can simply ask for the prescpription and go and buy everything in any pharmacy in Chaweng or somewhere else...this is the common thing

as for natural birth and c-section...my doctor advised me to do natural, she even doesn't consider me to make c-section. so, it totaly depends on the patient. I'm still waiting for the due day and will write back when I have my baby.

I wish you the easiest delivery and a healthy kid :o

Hello!

We're planning to come to thai in 2 mnths (3 mnths before giving birth). Tell us, please, who had experience- in our country (Russia) pregnant woman MUST be observed in hospital by doctors (analisyes, scans, what not...). Even a special "pregnansy notebook" is to be issued (all test results, illnesses, etc.)...

I wonder, how did you work thinks out a few mounths BEFORE?! Did you have to see doctors, do the tests, scans, etc.? How much is doctors consultation, ultrasound in Thailand and where is the best hosp. to do it (I've read forum - seems BKK Hospital and Nathon at Koh Samui are most approp?)

Thank you very much, hope for the rest this info will be also helpful. Good luck to you!!!!!!

  • 1 year later...

Thank you everybody, the information was very useful for me!

I had 2 miscarriages in Koh Phangan and have some experience with doctors here... My advice: choose Taksin hospital in Suratthani. The prices are good and the doctors have nessesery knowledge. They also speak English.

And... one more add on...

forget about doctors what was in your country. Here nobody really cares about you. In your country they needed to do it for burocracy, to keep the level or birth high in the country. If here your baby or you will die - nobody will do anything.

Somebody asked about prices... here is some prices:

TVS utrasound

Bkk Hosp. - 2500THB

Taksin Hosp. - 500THB

Doctor check up

Bkk Hosp - 1200THB

Taksin Hosp - 200THB

Curretage (Medical Abortion)

Bkk Hosp - 20 000 THB

Taksin Hosp - 3000 THB
