Hi all and KABUL 1234

Me again "vodka"

My display has decided to go to 16 colours rather than 256 , how do I get it back I've been in control pannel under display and I no have any choice to change it. Help please

Somehow you've lost the drivers for your graphics card. If no drivers found, windows will go to 16 colors and 640 by 400 resolution.

Basically you'll need to reinstall the display drivers.

Best solution is reinstall drivers with latest version found on the website of the graphics card manufacturer (or mainboard manufacturer in case of onboard vga)

Second best use the CD which came with the card (or mainboard)

In XP and millenium you could delete your graphicscard in the device manager(under control panel-sytem-hardware) and then reboot. Both XP and Me will most probably find a usable (but old) driver version for most cards.

With 2000 and 98 you'll most probably need the driver cd or download the drivers as they have a very limited set of drivers built in. You can always try to delete the display driver in the device manager and reboot. If you're lucky a usable one will be installed automatically, otherwise you're stuck on the 640X400 16 colors again...

Good luck
