My sister has offered as a gift to our 2 kids [boy 10 and girl 8] a wii console. I'm not and never been a gamer, so I googled it and found th price ranging from $350-$500 for basic set-ups and it seems like a lot to pay for a kid's game.

What are the prices for wii here in LOS? and Are there any older generation games that may be available here for cheaper yet??

That's the console price of course - the games are a lot cheaper :o

It comes with a some sports games - ten pin bowling, golf, boxing, baseball and tennis as a basic set up (at least in the UK where we bought our kids console). There are quite a few games both kids and adults. Not bought any games in Thailand though (brought a lot from the UK), so can't tell you the availability. There is an attachment that allows you to download games and play them - a friend has one so I know they exist - he got it from Ebay and it came with about 20 games or so on USB memory stick which he copied to DVD (I think???).

Voltage may be an issue....as US is 110v and LOS is 220 [sometimes] .......if it has a stepdown transformef to ?v dc, then the voltage can be matched.

And warantee issues would be easier if it was bought locally. Anyone know of any outlets in BKK, my sister will be spending a couple of days there before comming up to CM, where we live.

Just had a look at my kids one - it has no switch (like some applianced do) between 110/240. The adapter is rated at 230V/50Hz - I guess you would have a different transformer in the US adapter plug - you could probably get a 230V one here though to replace it.

I purchased a US Wii here in Thailand and also had to buy a 220 VAC / 110 VAC stepdown - I have since bought a 220 VAC power supply ( in singapore though they are available here ) for the Wii as I dont want anyone accidently plugging the 110 VAC power supply directly into 200 VAC.

Anyone know if a Wii bought in the UK would work in Thailand?

Sorry don't understand this VAC/Hz stuff, we British don't do foreign languages. :o
