Bastian
If I was granted an ED Visa for Thailand, what visa type could my spouse and child apply for to accompany me? I read something about visa for denpendents, but there was only something mentioned about spouses of people working in Thailand, now you could say, that studying means working hard in the original latin meaning anyway, but it may exclude studying; would I need a B visa for my spouse and child to follow me? What other requirements are there for dependents and what type of visa do they get?

Bastian
Where did you get your ED visa from ?I am not sure if you mean the embassy/consulate/country or the institution of learning? The visa is still hypothetical, but I would get it at the embassy in Berlin, Germany, to study at a (real) university. ubonjoe
Assume you have done all the research for your visa and etc. If you can get ED visa from consul they will most likely give a non-o for family. After getting here the following is what I beleive you are asking about. Thai Immigration website. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/ba...p?page=service# Select change visa. Look down for the this tab. For a family member of an alien studying in Thailand (applicable only father or mother, spouse, child)

What do I need to get this type of visa from the embassy?
astral
You cannot apply for a visa in Thailand. You must apply to a consulate/embassy overseas. When you apply for your own Non Imm Ed visa take your family member along and ask about the Non Imm O visa for them, saying that they will be joining you. But I would like to know before exactly what my dependents can get, if I get an ED visa, whether they can get an O visa, for how long, multiple entry or not etc; that is the very reason for this thread, I could have always just gone to the embassy when I apply for an ED visa and asked there.Where on the web can I find this visa type and what documents do I and my dependents have to provide to get it? Lite Beer
Personally I think the best they would do would be tourist visas. They may be lucky and get a Non O. There is a provision for dependants to get extensions of stay for 1 year to stay with family who have annual extensions. Police Order 2006. Look at 7.7, 7.8, 7.10. It may cover your needs. Mario2008
It depends on your visa. The embassy/consulate will first give you a single non-immigrant visa for 90 days.Once you get a one year extension of your visa, they can apply for an extension of their non-immigrant O. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/2notice/rtp606EN.pdf You 7.7 or 7.8, your family 7.
ubonjoe
Go to this link where you find info about all types of visas issued by consulates you are interested in ED and non-o. http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2489 This on another page of website but it will apply in your case. They don't go into a lot of detail on ED visas. 3.2 Applicant’s family members (i.e., spouse, parents and children who are unmarried and under 20 years old) are eligible to apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa (category “O”) and will be allowed to stay for a period of 90 days but no longer than 1 year Somewhere along the way you are going to need to show funds to support your family. astral
But I would like to know before exactly what my dependents can get, if I get an ED visa, Unfortunately such matters are not set in concrete. They are at the whim of the embassy/consulate where you apply. Generally you will do better if you apply in your home country. If you can tell us where you will be applying we may be able to give you more positive feedback.
