was wondering if any other forumers have a Freelander and where/which garage do you have it serviced? any recommendations for a reliable shop in Chonburi/Bangkok area? currently there is only 1 official dealer/service center in Bangkok (TUC along Vipawadee) and i would like to have my car serviced at other qualified shops. thanks in advance.

I bought a Discovery from the main dealer in Phuket three years ago. I've always had Land Rovers from Series III days, and drive a Disco in UK, so was suffering withdrawal. But to buy one here was a BAD decision!

The alleged three year warranty, servicing, customer service (eg fighting to get the car collected and delivered) all were major dramas.

I trashed the rear end (with second class insurance only) and the repair quotation was horrendous. And that was with them 'forgetting' to include the (huge) price of a new rear door. Had I gone ahead that would have come as a nasty shock, once they had the car in the workshop and me by the cojones ...

In the end, I sent used (scrapyard) parts from the UK to KL (since I had a container going there anyway) then had a Malaysian garage do the repair. A super job at less than half the Thai price. Well worth the drive to/from Malaysia, which is fun anyway.

I know this is not very helpful to you, but telling the story makes me feel better :o

Also 'servicing' in Thailand does not appear to understood beyond an oil and filter change. Anything else is usually only looked at after it breaks.

Good luck!

There is a Thai VP service dealer on Petchkasem 77 Rd.

I'm not sure if its still in business or not but I usually serve my car there.

The Ford and Rover is in the same building just different sides. I think they are still in business.

There is also another service place (non dealer) on Udomsuk road (Bang Na).

I don't know if they are still in business. But I can try to find their business card.

There is a really good mechanic on Petchkasem 60/1. He can find all the parts and does all the engine replacements but specializes in Discoveries though.

thanks for your comments and would appreciate it if you can provide details of the Udomsuk (Bang Na) service shop. that's much closer than the Petchkasem one.

servicing in Thailand for Land Rover really sucks!!! i haven't had much problems with my '04 Freelander although i do regret having bought it now (very expensive maintenance costs). will stick to a Japanese brand for the next one in a year or two.

thanks in advance MDECHGAN. the one recommended but THE NATION writer is not good. i've tried him already. the owner's style is similar to a service center. replace this, replace that without actually pinpointing the specific problematic part. :o only thing is they charge less than TUC.

hope you can find that card soon. :D

I will need some time to find that card.

There is a respectable exclusive garage recommended by the Nation on Ram Indra.

email and ask him. He says its near the Krirk University.

I found that card but don't know if thy are still in business. This was like 3 years ago.

Their website www.landroverthai.com doesn't work anymore.

tel. 746-5491, 746-5346

Ananrungruangkitphaisarn

43/37 moo 4 trok mooban nohk khet., Bangchak, phrakanong

They are located on udomsuk road between bangna and onnut. Access in on srinakarin road.

On srinakarin turn into udomsuk. On the corner of usomsuk/srinakarin should be a shop new fiber 4x4.

The owner of the shop is I think from Amsterdam. I heard they went out of business but this was from another shop which were their competitor so I take it like a pinch of salt.

Let me know if they are still in business. Parts are dealer prices but sometimes they can find from other sources.
