I know the subject of watching live TV on your computer has been covered many times but erm! sorry I wasn’t paying attention at the time – slap wrist. :o

I have done a forum search but can’t find an answer to my particular problem.

My good lady wife wants to watch some of her local Thai programs on the computer but we always get an IE error message, the one where it’s very sorry for the inconvenience but have to close down. (Why does it have to shut down ALL the windows not just the one?) :D

I can download things like YouTube and she can get recorded downloads it’s just the LIVE downloading that gives the IE errors. I have a feeling it’s my bandwidth, I have the TOT 1mb (2048000/512000) Is this enough?

I have XP Pro SP3 and IE 7. I had IE 8 but uninstalled this as she read on one of the sites that it would only work in IE7. I have also tried with using Firefox and Google Chrome but all give Error messages. Firefox asked to install a WMP plug-in but this did not help and Google Chrome gave some message about Activex-Shim.

I have really not much idea of how this live downloading works so any advice will be welcome. :D

Thanks in advance.

Are you up-to-date with Windows update? Could it be this:

??

Thanks "Phaethon" I've had a look at my setup and I don't have the KB946627 update.

The article refers mainly to IE 6 and IE7 wouldn't this Fix have been Incorporated into IE8? (I mentioned I had unsuccessfully tried IE8)

I'm going to give the Fix a go and see what happens, though as the same problem occurs in Firefox and Goggle Chrome I doubt it's a IE problem.

Cheers. :o

Possible issues with internet access. Check your speed, live sreaming needs good broadband.

Also try turning off anti virus and check that the windows security settings are not too high.

Agree it could be a broadband problem but surly the connection should try and give some sort of message instead of just shutting down.

As for security settings normally if there is a problem my firewall window pops up asking permission to make the connection or I get a "check your firewall" notice.

The problem happens if I am using IE or Firefox or Goggle Chrome so it makes me think I am missing something basically obvious with my set up. :o

this is not related to your connection at all but software crash you may want to update your java on www.java.com , then update the flashplayer and the shockwave flash(both should be available on adobe website), some of those websites do use windows media player to display the stream so update also your windows media player.

this should fix your trouble.

Sorry MHJ no prize your idea does't solve the problem :o

I checked I had the latest Java and updated the Flash and Shockwave players but the poor Ms D still gets the browsers to crash.

Phazey Yes if you read my original post you will see I have tried Firefox and Chrome as well as IE. The screenshots show the same error message in all.

Have done a Google for this and looks like I am not the only one, lots of similar problems but no definitive answer. :o

Ain't Google wonderfully type in "IE Crashing with streaming" and you get lots of hits and so quick too, just hit the enter button and there it is. Amazing. :D

Some brownie points for the new IE8, now when you get the error message "sorry have to shut down bhla! bhla!" instead of shutting down IE completely you only lose the error page. Very neat.

Apologies, it seems i posted that without finishing my first cup or tea for the day. I've had a think and a tinker with this - it's defiantly not browser. I've been looking at a way to load the streams directly..will post back soon.

[edit]

Try opening the following in windows media player directly (File/Open URL). If your media player crashes, try another one like VLC.

http://tvonline.thaicool.com/thaitv/asx/3.asx

http://tvonline.thaicool.com/thaitv/asx/5.asx

I'm guessing the other filenames are 7, 9 and 11....If this works, just create a playlist and no need to open a browser.

Hi phazey

Tried your URL in WMP but no luck :D also tried GOM Player and KMPlayer still no luck :D

Then downloaded VLC but that was a little complicated as I couln't find wher to open the URL.

I played arropund a bit but kept getting "Unrecogniosed File" type warnings. :D

Lets try some stronger tea :o

hi daffy D,

you don't say you updated your windows media player as i did suggested in my previous post, you need to have windows media player 9 installed or higher version because all the channels you gave us in your link are using windows media player to display the video and not a flash player.

i don't use windows media player (latest version is 10) to play my videos but i got the version 9 installed by default with my homemade windows xp SP3 integrated.

In VLC, go to file, then Open Network. Check the radio button next to "Http/mms etc etc" and paste the link in there.

But honestly, by the looks of it, a format & reinstall may be in order.

Sorry NHJ thought I'd covered all the replies. I'm a bit of an update junkie and have the latest of everything XP Pro SP3, IE8, Windows player 11, latest Flash and Quicktime. (I should really get a life) :D

Phazey - The version of VLC player I downloaded is 0.9.4 and seems a bit different to your instructions. I clicked Media - Open Network but could not find a radio button, instead there were various options including HTTP and mms. I tried both with your links but only go error message:-

Your input can't be opened:

VLC is unable to open the MRL 'rtsp://203.113.126.138/CH3-KGPYB-42007?WMContentBitrate=512000'. Check the log for details.

:D

The link the Missis is trying to watch is This One witch has it's own window so do I really need WMP or VLC? looks like it would use Flash or something like that. :D

Just to add frustration to my inadequacy our Thai neighbor who has a bog basic setup with IE6 and half my line speed and knows nothing about computers or updates can get this live TV that my Missis wants. :o
