Hi,

My partner (we are not married) and I currently live in the UK. She is a Thai National and has a UK settlement visa and is currently in her second year. We would like to apply for a tourist visa at the US Embassy in London. We want to travel for 1 week over new year. Does any one know how long/how difficult this is and how long the application would take?

We both work but do not own any property. We have been together for over 4 years. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Scott.

Off hand I'd think there'd be no problem as she is evidently legal and perhaps perhaps permanently a resident in the UK. For the interview be sure to take along her employment papers and UK immigration papers showing her legal status. Be even better if you were married but probably not a problem. IMPORTANT point is to establish to the satisfaction of the interviewing ConOff that she has good ties to the UK and will return there after the visit.

More detailed info available via the U.S. Embassy's www page.

Hi,

Just to let anyone know for further reference what happened on our visit to the U.S Embassy in London.

1. I prepared a folder with all our details and circumstances in the U.K as if it were a settlement visa.

2. My partner had her appointment, she was at the Embassy for about 4 hours.

3. The only docs. asked for were: pay statments, bank statements, letter from employer confirming holiday and a copy of my passport.

4. Questions asked: What work do you do? Where are going on your trip? With whom and for how long for?

5. Recieved passport back in 5 days with a 10 year multiple entry tourist visa!

All in all a easy process that I initially did not raise my hopes on.

Viva Las Vegas for New Year 2009.

Thanks for info/help Mac and best of luck anyone applying in the near future.
