Dear All

My two son's live in UK with my Thai wife and I. They have both Thai and British passports and were born in UK. I have heard rumours about drafting and national service for Thai children when they reach late teens but how does that affect children living overseas. Will my boys receive a notice to be drafted into the army at some point in their lives or do they have exemption as nationals living overseas. Where can I find out information on this and/or has anyone else had experince of the same with their own children of dual nationality.

Thanks

Are they registered on a tabian baan? That is how they are id'd for national service, not due to having a thai passport.

If they don't live in thailand & do not register on a tabien baan before their 30th birthday they will be automatically rejected from national service due to their age & will receive an exemption, they will have to present themselves at the local draft office for the lottery (again only if they are living in los at this stage) & the officer in charge will just mark them down as being too old.

If they are livign in LOS before that then yes, they will be liable for the lottery but usually Luk Krueng kids are exempted from it (possible that a donation would be made to the lcoal draft office :o )

Samran (one of our half thai posters) has covered this several times in the past so do a search for national service or have alook under his profile at past posts to find more info.
