Bangkok Hotel Near Victory Monument Or Further North?

I am looking for an affordable hotel near Victory Monument or north of there.

Any ideas?

there is a whole cluster of hotels in Sapan Kwai=the side street named Pradiphat from that BTS-stop-in varying classes. This area seem to appeal to muslims from neighbouring countries-many restaurants catering to them. Pradipat (basic Thai)- Liberty Garden- Bangkok Condotel - and 2 more upmarket of whome I forgot the names-someone else will fill in. I would not really rec to stay near that Monument-a big traffic roundabout full of hundreds of citybuses. Its on the BTS=skytrain , so some distance along that does not seem to difficult to me.
