Hi,

Basically, I want my girlfriend to come to UK to visit (just during one of her university holidays, probably about 1 month). I just have a few questions.

She will be staying with me in my house. If I am to sponsor her, is it easier for her to get approved a visa in terms of her needing to show less money in her bank account? (because she wouldn't have to pay for food, accommodation, etc). How much money would she actually need to show in her bank account for her to get a visa, keeping in mind that she would be staying with me? And finally on this subject, is it generally easier for her to get a visa if she has a sponsor?

Secondly, does she say that we are boyfriend and girlfriend? Does that mean she would need to show additional documents of phone bills etc? Or would it be fine just to show pictures of us together and evidence that I have stayed here in Thailand? (I have been living here for 4 months now).

Lastly, she has exchanged money to pounds from baht due to the pound being cheap at the moment. How would she go about showing that she has this money? (If she puts it in her bank account here, it would need to be in baht?).

Appreciate any help

thanks

Provide documents relating to her course and holiday from university. Course progress reports. This is all about proving she has cause to return to Thailand.

Money in a Thai bank account is evidence of cause to return to Thailand as well as spending money. More is generally better, but if you are funding everything in connection with the trip say so in your supporting letter. The visa application form has space for who will she be staying with, total number of people in house etc.

I recently when through this process, we mentioned 60,000 Baht but were no asked for documents to prove this.

If she would not get a visa based on her own funds - then a sponsor would be a sensible choice. You would need to show that you have funds to provide accomodation, food, transport etc. Also include a quotation for her holiday travel insurance.

It would in your best interest for getting the visa issued if you can show the extent/depth of your relationship. Documents or records that show how long you have known each other and travelled together, you will see a common question here is where can a Thai travel to without a visa (Hong Kong/Singapore) helps to establish a travel track record time line in your and her passport.

A photograph? Enclose a receipt for the FX transaction. Better to detail a planned itinerary, places and people to visit.

Any documents that you have from freinds/family members that mention (her by name) your planned holiday together and other earlier trips help establish your relationship. Provide photographs - lable them to make their relevance/context clear.

As you are the sponsor and paying for the trip the onus is in you to support your partner, and to show you are in a genuine relationship.

Reason to return is the biggest factor for refusing a visitors visa .

Hi there,

If you go to the visa office with a letter of invitation from you to visit her for i.e. xmas etc or visit you and also another letter to say you will cover all costs etc. It's best for her to get a letter from her university saying how long she has studied and also how long she has left of the course. Also show bank statements from both you and her. Photographs of you two together would also add weight to your application. If she can get a reference from someone prominent in her community too e.g. doctor, lawyer, professor and state they know her to be of good character then that also adds weight not necessary but good to have.

Good luck with the application
