Hey.Kata. What colour bike are we getting. Black or Orange? Not sure about the Orange after seeing Liam's vinyl work on his black one. I think the black lends itself more to a bit of vinyl.

Allan

Longer waiting time for a black one.

Arhhhhh!

555- the waiting is the hardest part! Sounds like I won't be able to get my greasy paws on the ER6f until October and it's killin' me! :)

As far as colors go- you could get the Orange and have it painted for ~5000-6000 Baht, OR sell the orange bodywork and buy black from Kawasaki; it's surprisingly cheap. The 8 painted parts cost a total of only 2561 Baht! A new gas tank is about 6,800 Baht if memory serves me correctly. Or- replace only the plastics and have the tank painted to match. Just an idea :D

I saw one guy who mixed the colors along with some painted accents and it doesn't look half bad:

Not to be argumentative Tony, but i really think that looks wank.... Black usually goes with most things but NOT the Candy Burnt Orange. I can't believe those painted parts are that cheap....even with a "1" in front of those numbers you quoted i would have said was cheap but 2.5k impossible.

Was in the Phuket Kwak dealer this am and there is a black ER6n all smashed up, looks like a LHS drop & skid. Should get my plate and book in about a month after giving them the documentation this am.

Seat hugger finally painted and on the bike. Ended up taking it back to UK to paint as the wanke_rs at BMW made a right cats arse out of the colour match and got all arsey when i refused to pay for it. They are supposed to be the best on the island too !!!!

Took it to a reputable custom bike shop specialising in paint work and he said it was the hardest 40 quid (2000THB) he's ever had to earn. Apparently you have to spray the part silver first then apply an orange dye (which was the hard part, knowing how much to put on, went through about 12 test cards) then lacquer on top. Most people who look at the bike haven't noticed, but for me knowing its been sprayed, if i were being really critical, would say its a very slight shade darker. It really sets the bike off and sharpens up the back end nicely, covering 50% of that manky seat!!!

So basically the moral of the story is for anyone with CBO colour, if you're adding anything that needs a colour match make sure before you buy the part, there is someone competent to paint it.

Tony, have you managed to get an aftermarket air filter for your bike, something like a K&N, all the mail order sites I normally use only have listings up to a 2007 model, any pointers in the right direction appreciated, cheers...

Hiya Kev_O,

Haven't looked for an aftermarket air filter as the stock filter is so incredibly thin and porous that I can't imagine an aftermarket would breath any better than stock.

Have you ever looked at the stock filter? On a bike this cheap I expected it would be a standard paper filter but actually it's about 1/8" think sponge soaked in low-viscosity oil. It's washable too which is cool. I really can't see how an aftermarket could breath any better than this:

Found this one on eBay but still not convinced it would be any better than the stock air filter above-

Here's the link to the eBay listing if you're interested: BMC Air Filter for Kawasaki ER6n, ER6f and Ninja 650R

Here's another one you might want to check out: "Pipercross ER6 (Ninja 650) Performance Air Filter" Link: http://www.twinshack.co.uk/prods/100.html

Happy Trails!

Tony

Thanks for the links and information, I did not realize the OEM air filter was as you mentioned, will take it out and have a look and will more than likely stick with that..cheers

Hiya Rickster- I expect you to be argumentative! Anything less just won't do! :D:D:D

Black usually goes with most things but NOT the Candy Burnt Orange.

I just thought I'd share the pic, and like I said, it's "not half bad" which conversely means it's not half good right? :D Certainly does not mean I'm going to run out and copy that paint scheme, but always fun to see what people are up to.

I can't believe those painted parts are that cheap....even with a "1" in front of those numbers you quoted i would have said was cheap but 2.5k impossible.

I bought the entire 8 piece set of Diablo Black plastics from Kawasaki Bangkok and I assure you the prices are as stated- 2561 Baht, including VAT! Want me to scan the invoice for you? Unbelievably cheap! Bought them for a guy in the US who asked me for them since in the US the ER6n only comes in blue and he wanted to change his to Diablo Black for a stand out look. Guy since disappeared so I have an entire set of brand new Diablo Black plastics for the ER6n. :) Thinking about keeping one set in original colors and getting custom paint on the second set.

Seat hugger finally painted and on the bike. Ended up taking it back to UK to paint as the wanke_rs at BMW made a right cats arse out of the colour match and got all arsey when i refused to pay for it. They are supposed to be the best on the island too !!!!

Hi Tony, I wasn't calling you a liar mate but as you say unbelievably cheap, just dont know how they can manufacture and paint them for (in my money) 22 quid, especially as i've just spent 40 quid on paint for the seat cowl!! I think the reason for single solid colours is to emphasize the aggressive style and contours of the bike, i think by mixing colours you look more at the colour alone rather than the bike as a whole, hard to explain but i think you get the drift.....

So i guess you could say anyone wanting a black ER6n and having a long wait, buy the Orange and the Black parts separately inc tank.....if they really do want black and can't wait, it is an option. I would love to know how much those same 8 pcs would cost in EU???

Haven't had time to take pics of seat cowl yet but i'll make it a job for tomorrow and post them on here for people to see how it looks. I think anyone with a black bike and liking the cowl, the paint match is gonna be a lot easier to accomplish.

Just for your info, took an "f" Demo out when i was back in UK and the difference the fairing makes compared to the "n" is unreal. For someone like yourself who does big KM's its a definite must, that said aesthetically i prefer the naked look but thats just my preference over practicality...... Kwaker Phuket reckons not for another 6 months for "f" deliveries...

What!?!?! :D Two days ago they said 3 months, two weeks ago they said 3 weeks!!!! Why do I feel like I'm moving backwards through time with these guys? Next month it will probably be 1 year. :)

As i am aware the ABS model had not been made for the asian market in order to keep costs down. From my experience Scuba i'd take most of what Kwak Phuket say with a pinch of salt !!!

I think the best way to monitor the "f" is from what the guys from the BKK dealership are saying or similarly through Tony as his name will be first on the list me thinks !!

I agree with that, and hope it's not true. (the 6 mo. part)

I agree again. I'm sure Tony will keep us updated. I am about ready to send Tony 10,000 baht and ask him to put a deposit on one for me. Phuket seems to have a different story everyday (let alone wanting 50k baht for a deposit). Or..maybe they are really smart and are monitoring this board and are giving us each a different story so they can work out whos who? lol :)

Looks good Rickster and seems they got the color right too. I wish the real plate was as small as that temporary red plate you've got.

Ride On!

I wish my temporary red plate (which has become a permanent red plate courtesy of Platinum Motors) was as small as your temporary red plate!!

Thanks for replys guys, its one of the first things i've ever bought in Thailand that does what its supposed to do, mind you it ought to look good considering the hassle i had getting it painted and carrying half way round the world !!!

Regarding the red temp plate, as you said its a shame the original plate isn't the same size instead of the dinner plate which i'm soon to recieve. Its possible to have them cut down but the embossed logo in the bottom right corner must not be touched. Anyway it was worse when i lived in Singapore, had to show license plate on front also, talk about killing the look (see attached pic of my baby)

To NormanW... judging from your avatar i take it you have Orange also, have you made enquiries about who can colour match yet, seriously, as my bloke in UK said its a biatch to get right...

Guys,

Been lurking around this forum for a while now - it is a great source of info, pics etc. I live in KL and have a nice white ER-6n. I just thought I'd share with you the work that I'd done recently on my exhaust.

There is a garage here that removes the catalysts. As you can see from the pics it requires the whole can to be opened up. However, the catalyst contributes around half the weight of the entire box. So it becomes much lighter.

Sorry for the low quality photos - I used my phone.

On the road the bike is definately more responsive and the sound is improved. The sound is nowhere near a 2 bros or similar racing exhaust but I like it. It has a nice low rumble at idle with a tasty rasp a higher revs - difficult to explain. I commute 40km each day on my bike so I wasn't keen on fitting a v. loud exhaust like a 2 bros. I love the sound of the things but I think I would become a bit weary of it day in, day out.

Cheers,

Tom

Wow Tom,

That's amazing! Now we all know why the stock can weighs a ton!

K-Speed here in Bangkok offers the same service for anyone in the area who would like to have their can gutted to improve performance and cut weight.

Happy Trails!

Rickster, I'm still undecided what colour to get and to add to the dilemma I think Kawasaki green is coming in October.

Oh man!

Just been told FREE insurance with the ER6n.

I have just been talking to a Mityon rep on walking street where there is a big biker rally.

I was finishing my ride on my mountain bike for the day and I was trying to negotiate a deal and he said free insurance worth about 8k baht.

Hmm.

I also asked him about a green ER6n with ABS in October and he said "I don't think so".

Will keep you all updated.

Let the good times roll.

On the aftermarket plastics, I got some pieces from Ermax in the UK, they took a while due to the fact that they were painted to the order, they came through in the orange and when I hold them up to the original parts on the bike they are a pretty good match. I never got the seat cowl and now I'm wishing I did after seeing your pictures, looks really good.

How about painting that bottom plastic bit in the same colour? (the one that Tony has taken off).

Do you think it would look good before it got pebble dashed?

I think it might add a bit more depth/balance to the look of the bike.

Has anyone tried doing it?

Hey Gang.....

Ive had my ER6n about two weeks now. earlier in the week I got soaked on the bike following a huge downpour. I noticed this morning that the hex key head black bolts holding the mirrors in place have rusted!!!!

Anyone else had theis problem? really didnt expect this .... Ive never had this problem with any other bike ive owned.

I did consider this myself, along with the rear hugger/chain guard, but then decided it would make the bike look to busy. Keep the orange up top and black at the bottom, works nice. Remember you can do too much and a lot of the time less is more...

What would look really cool is replacing those nasty textured plastic trims that run along the bottom of the tank/front of seat, with proper carbon fibre ones...

I always spray my bikes with a silicon spray/WD40 after every wash. Seems to stops screw heads and stuff like that getting rusty.
