When working in a hotel in Thailand, is it normal to not be allowed more then 1 week in succession of time off?

I mean, I know it is a 24/7 business, but that seems a bit harsh to me. :o

If this happens, is there something someone can do to get that period extended?

Yes - perfectly normal where there is no effective trade union representation.

Whilst Thailand has some effective trade unions in state enterprises, the private sector is underepresented & thus open to exploitation.

everything depends on the owner/menager.

In the present situation in the hospitality industry the person who is still workinh there is lucky to have work

It is not me working there. :o

And can one ask the boss to extend, or is this difficult because of cultural aspects?

Nothing to do with 'cultural aspects' - can I <deleted> you over? yes! First world, second world, third world - it's all the same, the weak will be exploited by the strong.

haha, what I meant was:

I can imagine asking someting like that from someones boss coulde involve 'loss of face'.

Or worse: loss of face for the boss when he says no, but he does not want to say yes either. So he feels forced to answer yes. And no boss likes to be forced. :o
