Noodles
I want to take the family to Hua Hin for afew days and was wondering which would be the best way of getting there. I would usually just get a flight to BKK and go from there, but would like to do it abit different. Coach, train or boat? I've got the train to BKK along time ago and had one of those private cabins, do they still do these, because my mum will be with us and I think she would prefer that. Is there a VIP coach that goes there, and is it one with ample leg room? Does the lomprayah catamarn go there? I appreciate any advice and your experiences using any of the above. Thanks

Thanks Lomprayah's cataraman + bus tickets are an easy way to get there, if you don't mind dedicating 9 hours to the journey. I don't have enough data to claim that it's the "best" way though. Lomprayah takes you by boat to Chumporn and then from Chumporn to Hua Hin by bus. Edited February 13, 2009 by OriginalPoster
pothai
Its a long boat ride to Chumpoon and the water can be rough sometimes
Gertrude
It's far easier to drive there. You have the advantage of stopping whenever you want, and you'll have wheels when you get there. 6 hours from Donsak. You can take the VIP bus, ample leg room on the 24 seater but I've found them non too clean. I've been on the train once, never again, takes too long. Thanks I always go on the Lomprayah now. When I used to smoke I'd take the 2nd class train so I could smoke in the dining car. The only thing is, the train takes twice as long, is loud and dirty from the track.Things you don't notice when needing a smoke!!

When I got the train from Bangkok to Surat last year, I asked if I could smoke, the conductor said 'you can smoke in the dining car, but that will be locked at night, so just go in the toilet you can smoke in there with the window open' I like Thailand.
