A few years back a friend was murdered in Nong Khai, an American Lao who had worked for the CIA during the war. He was the guy who introduced me to my wife. He had a young wife and two really great kids a boy and a girl. Very polite and well behaved children and they still are. I had told him that I would help his family if anything ever happened to him. Never got the chance the families stepped in immediately to control things, there was Social Security money coming from the states. When I saw how it was going the best thing for everyone concerned was for me to just mind my own business and I have.

They had some business with the VFW service officer so they spent the night with us.

Kids are always intrigued by the big bikes so yesterday when I needed to go to the Pharmacy I took the daughter with me for a ride. When we got back her younger brother was jealous but I felt terrible so I promised him a ride this morning.

In that ride we stopped for gas and at least five people were standing around the bike, talking to him and touching him in a friendly non offensive manner. I explained to them the that he was a friends son, but the were speaking Issan and Lao very little Thai.

So I got the answer as to the conversation when I got home they were asking him if he was my son. I tell you one thing this little shy guy was definetly the center of attention.

Interesting to see how the guys with children experience that aspect of life here.
