Jobs For Caucasian Male Models In Thailand?

I'm not devoid of a sense of humor and granted, there were some amusing replies. BUT, there are still a lot of insecure, jealous as#wipes on this forum!

your initial question and your subsequent postings do indeed confirm that the world of male modelling is a shallow and vapid place.

your perception that others are insecure and jealous merely highlights your own sexual insecurities and general low self esteem.

i really should not make sweeping generalisations about, or stereotype professions, but in your case i will definately make an exception.

Spot on- couldnt have said it better! :o

Peter Phuket....I know nearly nothing about modelling work possibilities in Thailand but I can say that I am 99 percent sure that foreign nationals are not allowed to work in that profession in Thailand.....someone please correct me if I am wrong. Therefore you would be working illegally if you choose to do modelling in Thailand.

Of course police have better things to do than see if there are foreigners working as models in the country but you never know...a jealous or just simply nasty person might report you to the Immigration Police and then you would probably have to say 'good bye' to the country. I am not sure if you would be blacklisted though.

Cheers,

Jem

Peter, I would have to say you bring on much of the grief you are getting here. Your "Some girl says I look better than Brad Pitt" comment really fueled the fire. Whether someone said it or not, you should just keep it to yourself if you wanted to be taken seriously.

Back on topic, I have done some modeling and acting in Thailand through an agent. I have done catwalk, print, commercials, and movies. Height is not an issue in Thailand where the guys are shorter anyway (I am only 5'9") but being slim is more important.

Depending on the job, the pay is not that great. I met guys who said they lived off their work, but they had to take every lousy assignment offered, like extra work for horrible pay just because it paid something.

I turned down jobs that I didn't want because I also worked a day job.

I don't know if BKK is still pushing to be the "Hub of Asia to the Fashion World" still, so work may be opening up if so (doubt it really). That may have been Toxin's "Hub of the week" statement.

The more serious paying Western acting roles are almost always cast in the West and the actor is then flown in, so those roles are limited if you are based in BKK and have no agent in the West. Modeling is probably the same. The real ones are flown in and the smaller parts are locally cast.

Overall, I knew one actor who was born and raised in the States and came to Thailand and made it big, he is Thai by race but American by citizenship. Ask any Thai girl and most of them know him, he is the soap star Pat Patsun (although they never understand when I say his name and I would have to repeat it 10 times due to my baby Thai speaking ability). But, he is Thai looking and does Thai films and tv shows.

I think overall that there are better markets for a real model. For me, it was fun as a hobby really. If you take that approach, maybe it would be doable.

I used to live around the Ari area and there were quite a few foreign models living in the area.

Peter Phuket - About four years ago there was a bar / guest house in the Banglamphu area that had a 'chef' who's real money earner was getting backpackers bit parts on TV. I don't think they were getting paid very much 1,000 / 2,000 Baht a day, something like that. Apparently he'd been doing it for years. Can't remember the name of the place now, but if you turn right at Khao San and take a left between the Wat and the bank and go straight till the end your forced to take a left. On that road - Open bar, wooden furniture, if you can't find it ask about in that area. Someone will point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

What puzzles me is how someone who looks 'better than Pitt' isn't already signed to an international agency.............?

Maybe he's confusing Brad with Willaim the younger........

Maybe he's been told 'He looks the pits' and has decided to go with Brad. :o

Yeah, that is a good point someone made. Why isn't your agent helping you get hooked up in BKK? You should be lining up the circuit, BKK, Hong Kong, etc. Plus, BKK isn't really where the top models are based out of anyway. Most of the models I met only stopped in BKK to do a few shows and then leave.

Also know that in Thailand the "modeling" business is often (not always) a sort of front for the high end escorting business too. Not all, but MANY girls who say they are models/actresses may actually do a show or print job here and there to seem legit, but escorting is their main means of support and the modeling shows are where they often line up new customers. One business feeds the other. And if they say they are flying to Singapore for a job, it's rarely for modeling. That is where a lot of the frequent flyer escorts from BKK go to ply their trade.

I ran across this once when I was judging one of the modeling contests in BKK. I was introduced to a former Miss Thailand runner-up and found out later she was just a hooker and used the past pageant placing to sound legit and sort of "raise her value" (I was told by reliable sources she was like 3rd runner up in one of the Miss Thailand pageants the previous year).

Whoa...a little off topic there.....not sure about the male world as I didn't do enough to really know it well.

Summary, more work and more money in other Asian countries for legit models.

My young daughter does some modelling for tv, mags, catolgoues ect here , and have had a chance to meet and talk to some male and female models. Most of them are hired through thier agencies and a rough salary of 10,000 baht a day . I assume this is minus agency fees, tax ect. Oh well, most of them are in the early, mid twenties and stay only a week or so... seeing it as a working holiday . Opened my eyes as i thought most models were stuck up so and so's. But just seem like down to earth ,nice people on a good wicket :o
