In a conversation with another local, the conversation got around to the places that were changing , closing, sold or just plain going out of business..

Thought it would be interesting in making a list, of the places , say within the past 6 months , that have closed and/or reopened as another name. I know that there are a lot of TV reporters out there who like to sit in bars after midnight and make up lists like this.

Heres a start and you guys add on what you know:

Elizabethian Room Closed and reopened now as ________________ ????

Gonz, as you are no doubt very aware, location is one of the most important factors in setting up a successful business. If a place is in a lousy location and can't make it, a simple change of owner and name won't transform it into a successful operation.

The "Beer Belly Bistro" on Loy Krow has been closed, and will re-open under new management as "Grandpa's Boner" as soon as the rats are dead.

Cyberstar Computer Services and Internet Cafe on Ratchapakanai closed last week. The landlords (himself and wife) cashed in on the profit their real estate had gained over the last couple of years. Rumors say that Cyberstar moves to Lampang from where he'll commute to Chiang Mai once a week to cather for his website owning clients. Anyone interested in the future faith of Cyberstar (a longstanding member who was suspended last year because authorities considered his avatar too much of an unpaid commercial) can check up on progresses in his portfolio on satiariyan.com. As for what will happen to the abandoned place: Well, the buyer was a guy from Doisket who planned to cover the vast hole constituted by the lack of Tourist Information and tour agencies in Chiang Mai. Plans may change, though, because in these days another hopefull guy is about completed with another outfit intended to cover the same hole about 18 meters away diagonally across the street. Last year a couple of outfits with similar business prospects were eestablished on the same stretch of street so in case you should have problem in finding a tourist Information and tour Agency in Chiang Mai, go to Ratchapakinai - that sort of business is blooming there.

Well. I wish him every success, he's been missed here. Me, you couldn't pay to live in Lampang. Hope he buys fire insurance on his new abode and plenty of respriitory masks.

Thanks LRB, I'll pass your recognition as well as your advices on to Cyberstar. He has told me, though, that due to his readings of the TV-real estate forum there'll be no chance that he'll buy in Lampang, he'll just rent (at least unril he's aquainted with the real estate situation in Lampang). - Thanks anyway - do you happen to know a trustworthty real estate agent operating in Lampang by the way?
