Porn top problem on the internet

BANGKOK: -- Porno media have been on the top list of complaining lodged to a new hotline website over the past five months.

Of 324 complaints, 122 were porn pictures, clips, games and tales, according to Pairash Thajchayapong, president of Internet Foundation for the Development of Thailand (IFDT).

These complaints have been lodged through www.thaihotline.org initiated by IFDT and Thai Internet Service Provider Association, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center and Thai Webmaster Association (TWA) five months ago.

Pairash revealed the complaint statistic during the official launch of the website yesterday at the National Telecommunications Commission.

While, 64 websites were identified to be able to harm society and the country's safety, 55 complaints regarded gambling, 35 were websites libeling against individuals, lese majesty and criticising politics, 28 were amoral websites—prostitution and abortion service, 10 were spam mails, 5 website found to violate individual rights and other 5 complaints related to faking information, selling email addresses and a programme used to make spam and providing mp3 loading.

"Our website caretaker team has collaborated with 54 webmasters taking care of the complained websites to remove the inappropriate parts, passed on 182 complaints to police to take legal actions and informed 56 internet service providers (ISPs) about the improper parts, but we could not take action against 32 websites, which 60 per cent of them were in foreign countries due to incompletely informed information and unclear guilt," Pairash said.

He called on everybody to take part in informing any inappropriate websites, saying: "Without a click of yours, safety and peace in the country won't happen," said Pairash.

Meanwhile, a seminar on child protection in cyberworld held after the launch of the website urged parents to pay more attention to their children who tend to become game or internet addicts and law users to change their old concept of finding evidence against cyberoffenders.

"Parents are the most crucial part to protect children from internet addiction, as our report has shown that most of children facing problems concerned the internet were from broken families or had poor family relationship," said Thongpairum Puitrakul from the Center for the Protection of Children 's Rights.

TWA chairman Police Colonel Yanapon Yangyuen asked if parents think they give enough time taking care of their children or not.

"Every related agency is trying to protect children from being abused by internet users or becoming game addicts, but many parents only claim they have to work and earn much money for their family, as a result, they have no time for their children," Yanapon said.

Yanapon also demanded law users and police to adjust their perspectives when finding evidence for cyber criminal cases because only tangible evidence—which they were familiar to when handling other criminal cases in real world was not enough for implicating cyberoffenders.

People can also complain via 026427033.

Funny

it always seemed that:

Nationalistic cyber terrorism,

Aggressive spam purveyors,

Denial of Service cluster attacks

Worms and system erasing viruses

Password and identity thieves, data pirates,

Botware and other malware,

were MUCH bigger issues than pictures of tits n ass.

With the absolute exception of the child porn networking idiots,

who should be stamped out and prosecuted ASAP in all cases.

Economic attacks through destruction of the basic communications and delivery

infrastructure of most of the worlds international business and banking interconnect,

clearly overrides the dangers to adult people, paying for safe sex, in the privacy of their homes.

there are statistic how much time is wasted because staff (and even more government officials) watch pornos on the internet instead of working. So it is a problem, but the internet is the just the media, without the would do different nonsense instead of working.

I can't believe this is even an issue when there are so many worse things going on online. What about the kids who spend 10-15 hours a day playing pointless games and neglecting their school work? The millions of files and personal information which is constantly snatched. The thousands of banners with malicious cookies.

And as for time wasters at work, you can block sites you, you can prevent messengers, they will just end up reading or looking at something else.

If thailands more concerned about this than other cyber threats... I am worried for thailand.

Yeah, like work, maybe?

I don't get it. Let's install big ass plasmas in every office and play porn on it non-stop, according to this logic it won't have any effect on productivity. Let's install game machines, too. Let's have live go-go entertainment. Real men will never get distracted from their work, and slackers will never concentrate, right?

>>>>>

I, personally, think that porn gets filtered very well as it is. It's not easy to search google images for something innocuous and stumple upon screen full of porn thumbnails, for example.

I think porn is the best thing on the internet.

Still, we don't want kids to see it, so home computers should be kept in the living room, not their bedroom.

While I find it strange that it seems complete normal to let children watch bloody movies in which every problem will be solved by killing the other, while we find it complete shocking if children see a couple making love.

Why is that, that violence is a complete normal thing, while sex seems to be evil.

well that seems simple enough, if I click we will get an elected government, the criminals in the PAD will all go to jail, the UDD will go home, people will learn to drive and there will be no more senseless killings.

come on, everyone get clicking :o

Individual rights? Don't I have the right to look at what I want without some hypocrite telling me otherwise?

One must blame the protestant Victorians and Huegonots,

from which i am doubtless decended.

Even if I have learned this nattering priggishness was foolishness long ago.

Basically everything that gave pleasure was considered dangerous to a

well ordered Christian life, and thus must be suppressed or we go off the tracks.

Sadly this fervent repression made many more minds go off the tracks

in grotesque and lurid fashions over the years

I must admit that posting on TV is distracting, but not as bad as video chat...

Hey Bagyai, long time no see.

They keep plotting and never seem to find a story that doesn't end the same way.

But nothing like a smile on the face to send you back to

your too small, sanitary, work cubical, refreshed. :o

Perhaps you should change your Google Images settings and try again.

Simple fact is that Porn sells and it is huge on the internet. While google and others do have filters, and they generally work reasonably well, The sheer amount of porn on the internet is the stumbling block. Singapore tried to block all Porn sites many years ago........and failed miserably, I am sure they have more competent IT people than those trying the same in Thailand. If you really want to keep porn off your computers (for your kids sake) then invest in a decent program like netnanny, It will do a much better job than The Thai government is currently doing.

Of course, it's easier to say "porn on the internet" is a problem, rather than, "kids out at internet cafes because both their parents have to work two jobs in our economically unfair society" is a problem.

After all, you can pretend to solve the first 'problem' with a simple click!

What utter cr*p.

Walk down any market street and you've got porn being sold. You can't move in Pantip on the "pirate" floor for people coming upto and trying to sell you "sexy movie sir".

Now lets look at the USA...

Morally dysfunctional. They will happily show police shooting people on the news. But god forbid a bit of tit and a film gets slapped with an 15, let alone a bit of shagging or muff...

Back to Thailand.

My wife's cousin is 26. His wife got beaten up, by his new g/f. They are now seperated. His new g/f seduced him (lol) , she is now 3 months pregnant. She is 14.

I doubt she's ever seen a porno, but doesn't stop her knowing what a shag is.

And I aint makin' no judgements, neither.

My biggest complaints are badly designed Thai websites with horrible layouts, dead links, viruses and trojans.

I'd also like to know where the 500 hundred million Baht went that was required by this Government to Police the internet when the same objectives could have been achieved for a fraction of the cost.

I will be contacting the hotline immediately. :o

Oops sorry for the dyslexic dropped N, purely unintentional. :D

The willing GF is one of those nice plusses to living here, n'est pas?

Going back to remember why you don't go back more often?

Kiss the old sod for us when you get there,

and the ground too. :D

Stay out of drafts, and the draft and avoid the daft.

Porn may well be the top problem on the internet. Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

But where does porn on the internet rate on the "top problems in Thailand" scale? #50? #100?

It's sort of like doing an objective critique of Patpong and being most concerned about the number of cigarette butts littering the sidewalk.
