Are you experiencing any prolems since this mesage appeared?

Did it appear after installing/removing software?

You can try the SYSTEM RESTORE option andtry to restore your system to an earlier date.

It can be found under:Start/Programs/Accessories/System restore.

You can try the SYSTEM RESTORE option andtry to restore your system to an earlier date.

It can be found  under:Start/Programs/Accessories/System restore.

I suspect that it is the result of two copies of operating system and the file that is corupted is the Boot.ini file.

The error message will not create any problems if you continue to use the system that way and if you want to get rid of it you will have to reinstall the second operating system again. Unless you kept a copy of the boot.ini file and in that case you can simply replace the boot.ini file that is on C: with the backup copy.

good luck.

This is what my Boot.ini file looks like.

[boot loader]timeout=5

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Yours should be very similar, except it will refer to Windows XP,

but I think the folder name will be the same.

hi'

probably a trace of a trojan that had been dleted or from a worm which got the same treatment ...

did you check which date has this file?

and we don't know where this file is ... can you say?

what is real name?

[search:file name (*ini)] to get a list, you should have only one win.ini and one sys.ini in the windows folder.

check this and tell us :D

francois

ps; if you are a bit advanced you may look at the registry to check the "run" section

the best could be "Regcleaner" and check the "start list", then it would be easy to detect the faulty file ...

anyway, give us some more details :o

it's only a file ...
