Guys the woman I know who smsed me yesterday about the fact that they are not allowed to go home today is not picking up the phone my other thai pro-red who went there also don't pick up the phone, actually the phones are plain dead.... EVERYTHING you have seen on TV about the REDs here and there probably was staged to discredit reds, and I can say people that I know NEVER GOT PAID for being there it was their own decision, to stand up for their rights, they were all standing near the goverment house.

Don't you think it was so easy to discredit reds by dressing up other people as reds and allow them to do whatever for a day or 2, to then have rights to wipe the real reds away????

Justy think about it...

Pattaya was waaaay too staged up ( IMHO ) it was made to that ALL who attend the summit would see how BAD are the reds. For this the security allowed reds inside, and if you look at it all from a different angle you will see that all looks strange and really fishy.

I think your nickname says it all "Lazycat". Why don't you hop off your computer and go down the road for an "opening special" - it's after 11am....but you'll have to be out by 2pm

I've been listening to various news sources and talking heads on TV and the western media seems really taken aback that the government used the military to solve the crises using M16's instead of the police with tear gas.

Does anyone have a clear unerstanding as to why the entire police force is nowhere to be seen? When abhisit was attacked, the police did nothing, at asean the police did nothing, when the UDD started rioting in bangkok the police did nothing. It's like there just isn't a police force in thailand.

Secondly any idea on what will happen to the police force now that they have effectively abandoned their post? Should there be a mandate that and and all security matters above traffic tickets be handled by the army since the police are unwilling to do more?

Last point, anyone notice that AJE seems pretty bias towards the UDD? They never mention wrongdoings by the UDD, they even don't mention the 2 that were killed by the UDD. At first they even claimed that the 2 deaths were UDD members themselves. They also cut thaksins interview in such a way that it seems like he's the hero never showing his rambelings that are in the full length interview

Thats easy, police once again proven to be useless and most likely are to scared to show their faces in fear of being attacked by the Bangkokians.

As for AJE, Thaksin is in Dubai-arab country and the only place anyone would give him refuge, AJE is an arab station, so since the support.

As for police being back and continue extorting, this is exactly what they will do. Do not forget they are another mob, so when have more of them they instantly grow a pair of balls and start to extort.

Sorry too late for the conspiracy theory angle. There is video proof of the protest leaders and Thaksin urging the reds to cause mayhem and disregard the law. This is all on the UDD and Thaksin's head now. They are all just trying to find a way to save some face from this defeat, and deflect blame onto the government. Pathetic.

Local press reporting no clear confirmation of crowd dispersal at the Government House. Mr. Veera is claiming and end to protests, while another UDD leader, Jattuporn is saying otherwise. There seem to be some conflict of interest going on among the UDD leadership...

Regardless of the reports, I'm hoping this is finally coming to an end. Now bring those PAD leaders to justice for their crimes.

let's hope this gets resolved without any more violence.

Both mobs need to be swiftly be brought to justice, including their financial backers.

Also an inquiry needs to be done about the (non)role of the police in this matter, you can almost argue that they should be charged with dereliction of duty. Some of them if reports are true concerning police joining the reds could potentially be tried for treason.

Veera, other red-shirted leaders head to Metropolitan Police head office

Veera Musigapong and Suporn Atthawong led other red-shirted leaders to surrender at 11:18 am.

They walked in line, heading to the Metropolitan Police head office but they had to stop shortly because some guards and demonstrators were angry and did not wanted them to surrender.

1) Possibly they are jamming mobile phone signals in the area? That wouldn't be out of order or impossible, but it would make communications between security personnel a little more challenging. Mobile phone batteries dead seems more likely.

2) I don't believe Pattaya was staged at all. I think it was just a major cock up by security planners. Too much face was lost over the incident. Most likely the security personnel had no orders to use force. So they didn't and were consequently overrun.

All Thai TV channels presently showing the same thing.

Not sure what it's about but something about these guys trying to start fires on Silom.

Anyone who's Thai is good enough to inform more?

The authorities arrested 3 men who they claim were hired to bomb Bangkok Bank (Silom branch) and CP company headquarters. The 3 men were paid 2,000 baht upfront with the remaining 3,000 promised upon completing the job. The men were heavily armed with guns, several large bottles molotiv bombs etc.

The authorities did not mention who hired these men. One detainee is said to be cooperating, while the other two are refusing to divulge any information to the authorities.

Yes, when I think of Thailand's political, police and military institutions one thing surely comes to mind: Competent and circumspect people able to pull off a massive, internationally televised, several day-long bit of political theater involving tens of thousands of actors none of whom, along with their handlers, slips up and makes a gaffe exposing the entire ordeal. This is certainly what's going on here.

Put down the bong.

No, no, no ... you simply don't understand ... those video images of Taksin encouraging an uprising were actually the PAD leaders wearing a mask of the Beloved Leader. He would never do anything like that!

Red protesters told to disperse; "arson" plots unveiled

Veera tells demonstrators at Government House to go home; Deputy PM Suthep alleges key arson plots against BKK Bank and CP Channel 11 reported that at 11:04 am Tuesday, Veera Musigapong, a red-shirted leader, told the protesters at the Government House to disperse.

Weng Tojitrakan, another red-shirted leader, asked soldiers to move back by 20 metres so that the protesters could pick up their belongings and disperse.

Veera told the crowd that the voluntarily dispersing was not a defeat of the red-shirted movement but was aimed at protecting the life of the protesters.

The leaders were also reportedly saying they were willing to surrender to the police following rioting over the past few days leading to many injuries and at least two persons killed.

No immediate movement of the crowd at Government House has been reported.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban has announced during a TV Pool programme at 11.30 am that police arrested three suspects Monday night who allegedly were involved in arson plots against key places including Bangkok Bank headquarters and a CP building.

One of the suspects made confession. Senior officers accompanying Suthep at the press announcement said the three were arrested with pistols, bullets and a lot of petrol. The "evidence" was shown at the TV pool press announcement.

A very nice represent for thai authority on AJE... Didnt understand a word he was saying. Of course, now that the government try to spin US support into its PR war, AJE will be firmly on the more critical side...

That one is so obviously staged to regain face its not even funny. Didnt the same Suthep make a huge point warning about sabotage yesterday? The Nazis staged attack on german borders before invading Poland was less obvious...

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban << The Democrats have got to get rid of him. Time for him to retire and go about his business. He has never been a popular politician amongst most Thais, except maybe in his own hometown of Surat Thani. With Suthep out of the picture, the Democrats might actually win the next election. Although highly 'influential', he's nothing but a liability to the rest of the Democrat Party.

Should not be ignored easilly what Lazy Cat says.

It would be very wrong to simplify whole thing so, to reject this possibility what Lazy Cat posted. This is not jus a clash, just a riot in a short term. Anything in Thiland is not simple as in western world usually is, that shows history, so why this would be?

The rooths of conflicts are deeper and worth to think about what Lazy Cat says.

Political framework in Thailand is not easy for westerners to understand.

This is a war between

1. red shirts(PPP),

2. yellow shirts(democrats),

3. the Capitalists (the old money, oligarchies here) plus new money from modern business

4. Civil Society

5. Invisible hands

All of them are factors in Thai society and all of them should to sit and talk so will be no blood or problem anymore. The problem is they are all standing on their own positions, without any wish to accept any other solution, defending their own interests, whatever does it cost.

Whatever!

So, is this all over now? The reds are scared the Army used fire so easilly? They don't have strong ideology and idea about doing this all? Their actiong is short breath? They are afraid of guns so they gave up all? I don't think so. They will just recompose and change strategy because not any of them expected the army and democrats will use weapon so easilly. That was surprise.

We will see what will be the next move of reds but this is not end of anything they planed as general idea. The question is what will be inside of their leadership. What stream will be dominant. Military wing, hawks or peacefully preotestor's wing? That is the question. Just don't underestimate them.

The current battle is over. The leaders of the reds are now on stage at Government House telling their supporters to go home. The Government has done a wonderful job. But this is far from over, believe me.

I do hope this is the last violence we'll see this side of the next elections (and that it remain peacefull even after that). But have the government really done a wonderfull job?

As I see it they still let "civilians" run around unhindered with sticks and stones behind army lines. That have potential to become very nasty.

Then there is the details that just dont seem right. The "assasination" attempt. The ASEAN summit scandal. And now the uncovered sabotage plots. With the government monopolizing the news its going to be fertile ground for conspiracy theory. The feelings of a large part of thailand have been polarized and that will not go away.

To be pererctly honest they donjt have to stage anything. It has been live on local and international TV for quite some time. Riot, hunt down the PM, Jakrapob stating openly exactly who they wanted to overthrow, murder, arson.., Thaksin admitting live on TV the reds were paid to play, intimidating resdients

Why stage anything? The authorites have enough to throw away the key if they want to on a lot of people. Once the authorites gain the upper hand being involved in an uprising exposes you to quite nasty charges.

Veera tells red-shirts to take buses to provincial bus terminals

Before entering the Metropolitan Police head office to surrender, Veera Musigapong told red-shirted protesters to ride official buses to provincial bus terminals and go home.

He urged the protesters to take care of themselves during their trips home.

He said the four buses provided by the authorities would not be enough to accommodate them.

He told the remaining protesters to group on the road island waiting to be picked up and transported to Morchit, Northern, and Southern Bus terminals.

He directed protester to get up two buses to Morchit bus terminal.
