National Police Chief Police General Patcharawat Wongsuwan

National Police Chief to address nation on countrywide TV

BANGKOK, April 20 (TNA) - Thailand's National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan is scheduled to speak on Monday about cases progressing against both the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and its rival, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

The police chief is expected to inform the public on the development of cases related to the PAD after its main leaders were prosecuted for occupying Government House and seizing Bangkok’s two airports—Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang—last year.

Gen. Patcharawat will also speak to the public about the cases against the so-called Red Shirt UDD leaders who led their supporters to invade the Pattaya hotel venue of the recent ASEAN Summit, forcing its abrupt postponement 10 days ago.

UDD demonstrations also caused chaos in Bangkok during the Songkran Festival and the leading protesters are now facing legal charges.

The police chief will report on progress in the investigation of the assassination attempt against a top PAD leader, Sondhi Limthongkul, last Friday.

Gen. Patcharawat will also outline the working procedures between the security-related organisations and the media while under the enforcement of the State of Emergency Decree.

The address will be telecast live on a national television pool shared and accessible to all media.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and officials sitting on the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) on Sunday agreed to continue the State of Emergency Decree in the capital and five neighbouring provinces.

Mr. Abhisit imposed the state of emergency on April 12, saying he wanted to return the country to normalcy, one day after anti-government protesters wrecked the 16-nation Asian summit in the seaside town of Pattaya and parts of the capital were paralysed the next day by the protesters' blockade of key traffic intersections.

The premier himself narrowly escaped an intrusion of red-clad protesters who invaded the grounds and offices of the Ministry of Interior last Sunday, smashing his car minutes after he imposed the measure and capturing and hurting his top aide.

What time is he adressing the nation?

Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan can talk all he likes but my betting is that it will do more harm than good, as he will have to mediate with anything he says, and for sure tow the middle line and not show grace or favor to either of the 2 sides.

The whole of this can be likened to one big game of chess.

Thailand was never colonized while other countries around them were taken over so easily.

The Thais have always been able to play one country of one off against another take England and France they played the middle buffer game against the 2 of them so well.

The PAD and UDD are just pawns in all this with the higher movers using them as almost cannon fodder.

The average Thai is hurting badly over this and sooner or later some one will play the foreigner card to take the attention away from Thai doing bad to Thai, its a natural progression.

The amount of loans being defaulted on and black money lending with huge monthly repayments is beyond comprehension on how many people can even survive.

On Saturday i saw kids on the streets begging in school clothing.

I sense that this wont be made of a fairy tail ending.

HOW ABOUT RETURNING THE COUNTRY TO DEMOCRACY ????????????????????? NO ONE REALLY TAKES ABHISIT SERIOUSLY>>>> ARREST ALL YELLOW AND RED SHIRTS !!!! ANDS HAVE A GENERAL ELECTION>>>>>> YOU ARE A LAME DUCK PRIME MINISTER

What are you on about?

And screaming in all caps doesn't get you read more....

Just yelling stuff out doesn't make it so...

Lame duck means a politician is / was ;

not re-elected, his term is ending, but not up yet , and he is just marking time till his exit.

Abhisit doesn't fit that description at all.

Thaksin when he wad deposed WAS a lameduck.

He was ONLY 'Caretaker Prime Minister' at the time he was removed.

Go one check you back files, he was the only caretaker PM.

He had not been reelected because the election was annulled for fraud,

and he was marking time till the next one.

When Thaksin was removed he was not the elected Prime minister he says he was.

He called that snap election himself too,

his party bribed little parties to run against them

so they need only win a LOWER percentage than running unopposed,

since TRT was NOT as beloved in many sections as they wanted you to think.

So lameduck doesn't fit Abhisit,

but does fit Thaksin in his last official role in Thailand.

Newin files libel suit against red-shirt leaders

Newin Chidchob, government supporter and former Thai Rak Thai party member, filed a defamation suit against red-shirt leaders MP Jatuporn Phrompan and Natthawut Saikua Monday afternoon, said Supachai Jaisamuth, the spokesman for Bhum Jai Thai party.

The case refers to Jatuporn and Natthawut accusing Newin in a speech of being behind the blue-shirt protesters, being involved in the clash between the red shirts and the Nang Lerng residents, the clash in Phetburi Soi 7 and the bus-burning incidents on Songkran Day, he said.

Maybe you should listen to what he says rather than flame him. Read the forum rules.

You can say someone wrote non-sense and not be calling them an idiot.

Many normally competent people occasionally write less than lucid prose.

The comment on caps is valid.

And the reference of caps to children is valid also.

No foul.

Oh wait, being called one of Thaksin's children might be considered a flame

in some quarters... :o

I agree with arresting red and yellow shirt leaders, and i take abhisit seriously, hes not a lame duck PM, and if u hold an election before creating proper protest laws do u seriously think there wont be protesters????? It might not be red or yellow or blue, but there could b other groups.

What a load of rubbish. Give the man change he is clever, educated, and has taken over Thailand in a very difficult time. Lets hope this prime minister will think carefully and wont make too many quick decisions like Thaksin and the other mob.

He managed the riots very well, and things may be starting to fall into place.
