Canadian Looking To Live In Thailand For 6 Months

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am new to the site. 1st post.

I am planning on moving to Thailand for 6 months. I want to get a apartment in Bangkok. What are my Visa Options? Isnt there some kind of 6mo travel visa? Is there a Thai counsulate in Canada? Does anybody have any tips on living in bangkok? I am planning on leaving in October.

thanks.

A 2 entry tourist visa would give you about six months without getting a new visa. You get sixty days per entry that can be extended for 30 days. After that 90 days you would need to make a border run to use the 2nd entry. You can also get a 3 entry that would give you almost 9 months.

See this webpage from the embassy in Ottawa for a list of conulates in Canada. http://www.magma.ca/~thaiott/visa3.htm

Best would be to contact any of them but Ottawa or Vancouver. These two are are goverment consulates and are known to give poor service. The others are honorary consulates which are much better.

Don't apply for your visa until about 2 weeks before you leave because the use before date starts on the date of issue.

how long does the visa process usually take to complete?

Only the consulate where you plan to apply can tell you that. Give them a call.
