Residents Raise Alarm Over Dangerous Utility Pole in Middle of Road in Sattahip

Residents of Na Jomtien in Sattahip District have voiced serious concerns over a utility pole that has left dangerously in the middle of a road near a sharp curve behind the local municipal office. The hazard, which lacks warning signs or proper lighting, has left the community worried about potential accidents. On September 6, local reporters visited the site, located on Soi Na Jomtien 44, connecting to Soi Na Jomtien 46 in Village 3, Na Jomtien Subdistrict. The issue arose after the Na Jomtien Municipality undertook a road construction project in the area, specifically on Soi Na Jomtien 44. The new road, 5 metres in width and 530 metres in length, was part of a concrete road construction project costing approximately 1,700,000 baht, was scheduled for completion within 90 days, starting on May 31, 2024, and due to be completed on August 28, 2024. During the inspection, it was revealed that the utility pole is positioned directly in the middle of the concrete road at a sharp curve. Alarmingly, there are no warning signs or streetlights to alert drivers of the potential danger. Only a few plastic barriers have been placed around the pole, raising fears that both residents and tourists traveling through the area are at significant risk of accidents. Local residents are now urgently calling on the relevant authorities to investigate and resolve the situation before any harm occurs. Just to prolong the agony, let me add to this topic: The two issues with credit card usage Kevin is a) the fact that you're using credit rather than capital or cash, and, b) whether or not the money you use in your home country to pay the credit card bill is income or savings. Point a) above needs to be set aside because the debate is circular and no two people agree. A credit card transaction is credit but if it's a cash advance it's not. And since it's revolving credit it's unlike a specific credit agreement to buy something specific. If you can get around point a), AND you use none assessable savings in your home country to pay your credit card bill, the argument in favour of a credit card transaction NOT being assessable to tax here, is pretty strong....I think. Ultimately however it will come down to point b) as the main issue, are you using a credit card to skirt around using a debit card which is seen as assessable income (subject to the funds not being savings). -

Driver in Shock as Massive Tree Crushes Car: Miraculous Escape Credited to Amulet

A 43-year-old woman narrowly escaped what could have been a fatal accident when a massive tree, believed to be nearly 100 years old, toppled onto her car, crushing it almost entirely. Miraculously, the driver emerged unscathed and credits her survival to a "Luang Pu Thuat" amulet, a revered talisman she always carries with her. The terrifying incident occurred in the wake of Typhoon Yagi, which passed through Vietnam and Laos, triggering severe thunderstorms across the northeastern regions of Thailand, including Nakhon Phanom. The heavy rains and strong winds caused several large trees along the banks of the Mekong River to collapse, including the century-old flamboyant tree that fell onto the woman's car. The victim, Ms. Krisana, a contractor who normally resides in another province, was visiting relatives in Nakhon Phanom when the accident took place. She had pulled over on Sunthorn Vijit Road, near the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Police Station, to take a phone call as the rain intensified. Unbeknownst to her, the towering tree next to the road was already on the verge of collapsing. "It all happened so fast. I didn’t even realise that the tree had fallen until it hit the rear of my car," Ms. Krisana recalled, still visibly shaken. "I was in complete shock. If it weren't for the amulet of Luang Pu Thuat from Wat Paknam that I always carry with me, I might not have survived." The amulet, which Ms. Krisana has kept close to her for years, is believed to provide protection and safety to its wearer. Although the car was severely damaged, with the roof crushed, Ms. Krisana miraculously walked away without a single injury. A passing motorcyclist who witnessed the aftermath quickly rushed to help her out of the wreckage. In response to the incident, the Nakhon Phanom Municipality dispatched a team of workers to clear the fallen tree and ensure that the road was safe for traffic. Authorities have also issued warnings to residents and motorists to exercise caution, especially around areas with large, aging trees that may be at risk of falling due to deteriorating root structures. "We are urging the public to avoid parking near large trees during heavy rains and strong winds, as these conditions increase the likelihood of trees collapsing," a municipal spokesperson said. "Many of these trees are over 100 years old, and their roots are weakening with age, making them hazardous during storms." As for Ms. Krisana, the municipality is reviewing her case for possible compensation. Local officials noted that regulations allow for compensation in instances where natural disasters or public infrastructure, such as trees, cause damage to life or property. For now, Ms. Krisana is simply grateful to have survived what could have been a deadly accident, attributing her survival to a combination of luck and the protection offered by her cherished amulet. I disagree, I pretty certain we will see a surge in foreigners filing tax returns as a result of all of this. We've already had numerous reports of people consulting with "tax experts". Just as an aside, you seem to base a lot of your opinions solely on the things you have seen personally and you take those anecdotal findings as fact......I think that's quite dangerous. -
