How Do I Get This To Thailand

Please, don't do it! At best it will cost a fortune, at worst you will simply lose the car to the customs people. Check other postings on this matter, it really is a no no here, I wish it wasn't so.

There are lots of American cars here, usually in poor shape, they need rebuilding, but that will cost far less than attempting to bring one in from overseas. I know the idea seems attractive due to prices overseas, especially in the USA.

I can get many such cars, www.amazinghotrodshop.com

Go to the site, send me a mail. Ian

And the value of the car is determined by its value here, and not in the USA. Try brining in an old 2000 dollar mini here - one in good condition. They sell for over 500K baht here. So any tax will be based on the 500K.

Hello Lads and lasses.

I'm buying this car back home:

http://www.blocket.se/vasterbotten/Ford_26...;w=3&last=1

How the heck do I get this to Thailand. It was manufactured in 1971..

Any advice highly appreciated

I have read stories here of posters never getting their cars once they arrive on Thai soil, due to the fact that the 'Hoops' you have to jump through are neverending and the guys in uniform love an interesting bargain when your car is then sent to Auction.

This is NOT my personal experience & only what others have posted on a number of occasions.

Save youself the trouble and buy a registered car in Thailand

Dave

Don't bother, the system here is against you from the start.

I was just looking at some used car prices online in the UK, there are so many great motors at low prices compared to the crazy prices in Thailand, I'd import a BMW if it was financially viable, but according to what people say on this site, I wouldn't bother to try.

The Thai Government Tax imports really heavily !

Look at it this way ..................

BMW X5 xDrive 4.8 Litre in UK = 50,000 Pounds a mere 2,550,000 Baht. @ 51 Baht per Pound.

BMW X5 xDrive 4.8 Litre in Thailand = 184,000 Pounds a staggering 9,399,000 Baht :)

That's probably why so many Farangs have Fortuners instead of X5's, the 8 Million Baht price difference between the two motors is crazy.

Then again I had a BMW in UK years ago, cost me a lot of money when it got older, my 3.5 year old Fortuner has never once given me any problem, not one time!

If you bring it in as a car - you are looking at about 270% on the value of the car according to Thai Customs....you could bring it n as "parts" - and then you have to pay your way throughall the red tape to get a blue book etc - if you do it get through in the first place.

Just in case the OP has any trace of residual optimism left, the above IS NOT a typo... :D:)

Yep, that works out right for the X5 BMW's UK Price compared with the Thai price.

The Thai price of the BMW is 270% more expensive than the UK price !! :D

UK price 50,000 pounds x 270% = 185,000 pounds in Thailand, insane price.....

Buy a Toyota ! :D

A nice car my friend, it is possible to get it to Thailand but with some high duty fees no doubt. Your first step should be to talk with the Thai folks at Land and Sea Transport or Thai Custom. Year 1990 I have a 1985 Chevy Blazer I want to ship to Thailand, I was quoted a Bt300,000 duty tag (fee) by Thai Custom at that time. :D:):D . Looks like Classic collectible (item) Car why don't you sell it on e-bay or maybe to a Collector in your home town area. :D:D:D:D:D

Actually its more like 287% tax. But since its very old, there is a deduction. 5 years old is 55% deduction. the tax wont be the problem. Emission will

You are right. It's just too much job to bring it over here.

Think I'll just keep it back home for some time.

Thanks guys for your time and effort.

You have given me some valuable input.

Glad you got the sad message, from all this good advice.

A senior American exec of Haliburton (a firm with quite a lot of clout around the world) had his beloved Triumph TR3 sit on the Bangkok docks for 6 months, deteriorating, before he got the message. And sent it back home.

Attention MODERATORS. Can we have this simple advice Pinned please? I wish I had a beer for each of the many threads I've seen on this topic.
