Ping
Excellent post, MM. Does the Phuket Gazette diarise their stories for follow-up? I suspect not. If no news is forthcoming when the journos do their court and police station rounds, I daresay there is little or no other vehicle to ensure follow-up. If the PG does not diarise (continuously) their stories for follow-up at a reasonable time after the event, will it consider doing so? If there is nothing to report, cannot the PG advise its readers that 'investigations have stalled', 'no comment is forthcoming', efforts are continuing', etc, in respect of a specific incident. This could be at a landmark time after the event (3/6/12 months later, depending upon the event in question). This would at least provide the opportunity for a re-diarising and perhaps even an opportunity to ask the Governor's reaction to any perceived lack of activity. I'm sure this could be achieved diplomatically (without putting the police/court system off side) and may also apply some pressure where police activity has been found to be wanting. More to the point, it would keep its readers informed. After all, isn't the purpose of reporting supposed to be related to the public's 'right to know'? LivinginKata
Anyone ever thought about sending the PG an email about old cases/stories. Maybe that would get them interested in old case updates from time to time ??
Valentine
Not sure if this should be here & is really a bit of nostalgia but whatever happened to Patong? Bangla was a two way dirt road, you could count the number of katoeys on one hand, after 2am the Kangaroo bar was a shining beacon in an otherwise fairly dark Bangla with revellers spilling out on to the road, tuks tuks were 10 Baht anywhere in Patong (I even had one come back & collect his fare the next day when I spent my last Baht at the bar).
