Canadian With Thai Wife- Canadian Passport And Travel

Featured Replies

Hello,

This is my first posting and I have to say I am impressed by the knowledge and experience expats in Thai have. I currently live in Japan with my Thai wife (married just over a year) and though my Canadian embassy knows of my marriage, marriage is a provincial issue in Canada and I can't get a marriage certificate from there without ..er...um....flying to Canada and getting married again (which is an option but they say I only have to be married once) . Anyway, she is still a Thai with a Thai passport. Does this mean until she gets a Canadian passport (a long ordeal) she will have trouble travelling with me to places other than the third world ??

Any information on this would be appreciated.

I'm american and got a Canadian TRV (tourist visa) from the Canadian embassy in Tokyo for my Thai gf while she was visiting... no interview or anything.

With a Thai passport your wife has to confirm to the immigraiton rules that apply to Thai nationals. For most western countries these are stricter then for a Canadian. However the fact that the 2 of you are married should make it easier, as it makes it less likely she intends to stay permanently in that country.

I am a Canadian and I definitely disagree with this statement. Canada is just as strict as the other Western countries.

I think he was making a comparison between being a Thai and being a Canadian.

If you are a Thai it will be more difficcult to get a visa than if you were a Canadian.
