Here goes!

Would it not be an idea to have a separate Pinned thread on the subject of Bangkok Airways?

There are people who like and dislike them and the discussions/ arguments have been going on for years. By doing this we wouldn't be going over the same old subjects ad nauseum. e.g. fares, private airport; service quality and so on.

It would save posting topics which have been done to death previously; and it would enable potential posters to historically research their particular subject and perhaps give a balanced situation comparison as to how things have either got better or worse.

I get the feeling that many of the Forum members who have been in Samui for some years, now glaze over when Bangkok Airways is mentioned and cannot be bothered

to enter into debates which have previously been well aired. FWIW. :)

trouble is BKK Air could sue Thaivisa for slander if this was to happen....

Good point, but not sure how if allegations can be verified.

defamation laws in Thailand are far more flexible than in the West. While this article is mainly about the lese majeste laws, it also covers the definition of defamation:

The first group is insult or defamation against ordinary persons. Insult against another person in his or her presence under Section 393 has a penalty of imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month or a fine not exceeding 1,000 baht, or both. The penalty for defamation under Sections 326 to 333 is imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding 20,000 baht, or both. The penalty for defamation by means of publication is imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to 200,000 baht.

I doubt there'd be enough posters for a separate Bangkok Air forum, it just so happens that one person saw a complaining post about Bangkok air and so decided their own complaints were worthy of a separate thread.

Well, the usual rants are still coming out of the woodwork. Back to complaints re food/sandwiches again...yawn.

I still think that the silent majority (including me) are generally happy with Bangkok Air. I suppose that it's the nature of a forum

such as this that it lends itself to the vocal minority who rapidly become insulting when one dares to oppose their views. :)

No, please don`t make any more topic about B.A. This have gone on for 4-5 years and for me I am tired of all these complains. If somebody dont like to fly with them, simply do not. If you like to come to Samui there are lot of other options to get here.

And by the way, try another destination in Thailand if you are so fed up, go to Phuket. Pattaia, Koh Samet, Krabi, Koh Chang, you name it. And if you dont like it, stay home.

I'm in agreement with you. If you took the time to read the original post you would see this! And by the way my home is SamuiThaliand

No, it does not say anything about the definition, only the punishments.

I'm not sure how any of this applies to posts on an Internet forum. Has there actually been legal action taken against this Web site in the past and if so, what were the circumstances and results? By the way, any way you cut it, defamation must include the notion of "false claims." If I say/post something that is demonstrably or provably true, it cannot be defamation. If I say the bread in the snacks was stale and had witnesses to back up my claim, that could not be defamation against the airline; however, if I swore that trained coconut gathering monkeys (highly skilled though they are) were piloting the last flight I took, that might not go over so well. But of course it begs the question as to who would actually take the time, effort and expense to sue over such a post? This is why I am curious as to whether there has actually been legal action taken against this site for something that was posted.

It is also interesting to see that the commutation of a one-month jail sentence for insulting someone (How on earth do you prove that? Seems that every instance would be thrown out as frivolous) is only 1,000 baht.

As far as Bangkok Airways, the only thing I can say in the negative about them is that they are costly, although they do offer more discount fares now. I have flown many times with them and have never had an experience worth noting. I do think the snack for a 45-minute flight is insane, and costs could be cut by removing that feature. But otherwise, it is a rather ordinary airline with a big ego and a virtual monopoly (read="You pay whatever we want to charge") to and from Samui.
