We are on a 4 PC LAN with TRUE ADSL, router BILLION BIPAC 5102G

My son got the software to set up his radio station but the problem is the IP and port forwarding.

Main concern for me is that any changes needed for that on the router will affect our other 3 business PCs.

He did set up a static IP see screen shot:

When entering this allocated URL in a browser we end up in the log-in screen to our router!!!!

How can that be???

Here is what he is trying to do:

How can I help my son without causing problems for the other PCs???

3 points...

1) Go here for everthing you want to know about Static IP & Port Forwarding > http://portforward.com/

2) I had 2 computers on one Router with P/F and S/IP, and I'm 99.99999% sure that NONE of the computers on the samer router had any impact from the changes... Your 3 computers will all work fine...

3) With so many computers utilizing the same internet connection, plus the added load of running a Radio Station, your big problem will be bandwidth...

Actually, this is correct, and NO-IP is working to "resolve" the URL to your IP Address.

The router is the "gatekeeper" of your home network, and you need to configure the port forwarding to allow incoming requests to your son's PC.

Cosmic Surfer is right, this is a great site with all of the info you need. I searched a little deeper, and found the exact page detailing how to set up your Billion Router for Winamp media streaming.

http://portforward.com/english/routers/por...o_Streaming.htm

Done correctly, there will be no impact on your other computers as they will not have any open ports forwarded to them.

Thank you very much for all the info also many thanks to Reimar for the info by phone.

I knew I'm somewhat dumb but now I know I'm completely dumb.

Here it goes:

I know now that all PCs have to be set to a static IP and I guess this is the location where to do it on each PC (see screen shot):

post-3742-1243693413_thumb.jpg

But where can I tell my router which PC belongs to which IP????

Here is the manual of my router:

Manual.pdf

Next and hopefully last question:

Only 3 PCs are on a LAN cable, one (not my son's, he is on cable) is on WiFi and sometimes my son uses his PSP and Wii on our WiFi, how do I lock their IPs??

Here we go:

1.: Right Click the 2 small monitors in lower right system launch

2.: choose properties

3.: double click on TCP IP settings

4.: IP = 192.168.1.10 (the last digits after the 3. decimal point identify the computer)

SubNet: 255.255.255.0

Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (if the Modem/Router use that settings)

Primary DNS: 203.144.207.49

Secondary DNS: 203.144.207.29 (both are the TRUE DNS)

5.: save the settings and do the same for all other computer with different end Digits

In the Billion Manual take a look at Page 42 (40)! Here you keyin the settings for the Port forwarding. For example if you need to forward post 14880 for PC 192.168.1.10 you keyin starting by 2:

Start Port No.: 14880; End Port No.: 14880; IP-Address: 192.168.1.10

If you have some other ports you need to forward, do the same with just the different settings. Do NOT use the same Port for forwarding on different PC's! You can use every Port only once in the forwarding process.

Any problems more, just let me know.

Cheers.

The comments about Bandwidth are important. Remember if your son opperates a 128kbs radio stream that will be 128kbs for EACH listener! Check what your upstream bandwidth is. This will be a lot less than your Downstream. For example if you have 2Mb Down you may only have 400kbs Up. Three listeners will lock up all your Internet access!!!

I have also just set up an Internet station. The correct way to go about it is to stream the station from your son's PC to a server which will then relay to all the other listeners. My upstream is always no more than 128kbs but my server is set up to handle 200 listeners and has a bandwidth of 100Mb constant. If you pay for bandwidth and it is not an unlimited account then beware because if you have a popular station the Gigabytes will soon mount up!

I agree with the bandwidth concerns being voiced. I think the only realistic option with Thai upload speeds is using AAC+ encoding. It has great sound quality at low bitrates. You can get an AAC+ encoder from shoutcast.com

Got news for you Jack. The FCC's remit stops at the US coastline.
