I am using my Netbook for long periods, with the battery charger constantly phugged in and switched on,

I am now wondering which way would be better ..

1. Leave the Netbook connected to the switched on charger, to automatically top up the battery

2. Un plug the charger, and when the Netbook battery indicator starts to show low, then plug in the charger

3. Remove the battery , and just leave the charger switched on running the Netbook .

Which do you think would be the best option ..?

Thanks ..

It depends on your work!

If you run a Laptop or Notebook on Battery, the computer goes in Power Saving Modes, which means, the CPU clock pp. is not running full and the system will have less performance.

That's maybe ok for normal work but if you need the full power of the system, you need to run with expernal power.

Cheers.

I have been doing this with my cheap compaq for five years.  I have my mail on it so its up 24/7 and moble.  At home its on ext power 24/7.  One time a month I let it run down, all the way down and then plug it back in.  It still runs 3.5-4 hours on battery when I leave home even after five years of abuse.  Thats not any less then it was new.   This is the same battery maint. that was programed into our heldheld comm devices battery charges made by motorola and the battery type it pretty much the same.  The warning there says that many short uses of the battery cause it to build like memory and run shorter and shorter time.  When its on the ext power and once fully charged the battery is not really effected anymore.   Seems to work.

The enemies for modern laptop batteries are heat & discharging too much.

They will last longest if held at 40-60% total capacity and a cool temperature, so technically it would last longer to charge to 60% and put it some place cool. OTOH, when the power goes out you'll have no battery to save you.

If you want to know all about batteries this web site gives you all the information

http://batteryuniversity.com/ if your using it where there is no chance of the power cable being accidentally pulled out take the battery out, But if you have a power cut you lose every thing batteries last longest as Veazer said charge to 40% and keep cool
