Good afternoon,

I am in the process of getting a new Honda CR-V

..well I am not sure yet.

I got a few questions.

1. Is it true that cars a generally are cheaper in the north than in the south?

I live in Phuket should I get it here or in BGK?

2. How much discount can I expect - or what can you get for free

besides the insurance and the standard stuff, my Honda dealer here does not

offer me anything!

3. I want to add a Navi system into the car... anyone that could

share his experience with a Navi system in English with me

Any challenges with the English street names etc?

4. The First class insurance that normally comes with it - anything

that I should look for, or they all cover the same?

Please let me know if there is anything else that I should or shouldn't do..

its my first car that I buy in Thailand!

1. don't know

3. For GPS. I would recommend getting a stand alone unit. they are much easier to update yourself and you can also use it on any car, bike or even when walking. Buy a Garmin. They have the best maps of Thailand. Either Esri or Rotwieller. only downside they do not look as nice in the car.

4.Cover can be very different. are you getting the car on finance or paying cash. if finance then you will probably have to use the insurance that the finance company want.

Cars have the same price all over Thailand, and its difficult to get any discount if you are not government employed.

Cars have spesial promotion during the Motorshows in BKK, the next one in november/december

In BKK its more easy to get freebies like insurance, tax, sunfilm, premium wax/rustspray-package, etc

Basicly Phuket is the worst place for freebies for Toyota and Honda. If you r moving to HH, delers in HH and Petcburi (30 mins north) are ok too.

Insurance

Make sure the insurance covers repair with new original parts in a garage by your choise (or at least dealers garage). Make sure the insurance company has credit in that garage. Most insurance companies do not have credit at Toyota Phuket, so you have to pay the repair yourself (20.000 or 600.000 baht?), and in best case get a check from insurancecompany a month later. Also check 3rd party insurance. Some are only 2 mill baht, not enough to pay for that 25 mill baht Ferrari you just hit. :) Insurance covers max 80% of the cars value, a 1,2 mill car is covered 1 mill baht.

I used to have a Honda CRV 2,0. Very heavy on fuel, much more than Fortuner3,0/Camry2,4 and Accord 2,4.

Good luck

If you finance the car, interest is often lower in BKK
