Looking for cheapest way to fly BKK/Langkawi. Air Asia wins on price but you can't book a connecting ticket through KL and have to buy separate tickets. Does anyone know how timely Air Asia is and how long is needed to change flights in KL and how easy it is? Also is there any difference/preference between their ThaiAirAsia operated flights and the AirAsia flights or doesn't it matter? Any advice welcome.

There were direct flights once Bkk to Langkawi but I think they have stopped personally I enjoy catching the ferry from Penang

You have to go to KL and then KL to Langkawi.

You can co-ordinate your flights through the Air Asia website - good value if you can pick the discounted prices. I agree that it is a pain having to effectively make 2 bookings.

CARE - do not do what I did - I booked BKK/KL and KL/BKK without realising that the first flight out of Langkawi could not connect with the flight I had booked from KL to BKK :) I then had to book one day less on the Langkawi stay and have one night in KL. That was OK but it was not my intention.

I will not even start to go into my conversations with Air Asia's "help" desk when I tried to correct my mistake......

I flew from Langkawi back to Bangkok with MAS (Malaysian Airlines) with a brief transit stop in KL. Very smooth connecting flights with none of the hassles of Air Asia and their late departures and arrivals. The boat trip sounds really nice as well if you have time.

Thanks all for your help. The boat sounds a good option, but it's quite long so bit worried if it is rough. Anyone know if sea is generally calm or rough in August? MAS is great time-wise and connections, but very expensive so think would have to stick with Air Asia and just book separate flights with plenty of time to spare even if we end up hanging about. Also thought about one night over in KL city - is it easy to travel in and out of the centre and is it worth it for one night? Anyone know how long you need to change planes at KL with Air Asia - is it all same terminal. Just weighing up all the options then. Penang would have been a much easier place to go to, but I really want good beaches and I'm getting the sense from all the write-ups that they aren't very good. However, if I'm wrong, let me know. Thanks

The ferry service from penany is pretty good and safe .If u are still interested from flying from KL to langkawi ..i suppose it would be the budget terminal not the KLCC , you can get connecting busses from KLCC to the budget terminal
