Oil Exploration Near The Islands

Featured Replies

A while ago I learnt something about acticvities on the island going on regarding the corals, the water and so on. People (local on Ko Phangan) were invited to join some information evening.

I have received this 3-fold (CHEVRON) from somebody a bit worried about the ongoing.

Since I found this on facebook, and that it shows that it is public now, and also seen on Ko Samui in the "samui express" (link below) here also a scan from this brochure in Thai. May someone can translate?

I wonder who else heard about that topic?

I did, but the project was presented under a different light. All operations were to be based at Thai Sala, with the building of a new terminal there. So if you really look at it it's not that far from here is it.You can see the Kanom power station from the south of the island.

I really don't what the opposition can do at this stage, of what I understand the green light was given & they have acquired a substantial parcel of land some time back " last year?" & supposed to be operational within 2 years.

Maybe I'm talking about a different thing all together here, but I have a suspicion it's all related. There was some discussion about this in the Southern Thailand forum, some time back.

I would imagine these are exploring for gas, not oil, but I could be wrong not having the seismic data or the geology information. But for reasons too lengthy to go into here, gas makes more sense.
