mommysboy
Thaivisa Survey 2009: Are you happy with your internet connection in Thailand? http://survey2009.thaivisa.com I did the survey. My internet connection is cxxx, it's my 4th in Bangkok and no matter which way I turn the service is deplorable and has actually got worse. I could never rec. a certain 4 letter word company to anyone. Often, and I mean often, I have to use local internet shops and lately they've been bad too. On Sunday I had a download speed of 1.5kbp, just plain rubbish. A disgrace to cyber space. 1/

MJo
All do respect George but this is not a survey for internet connections is it ? About 7 out of 32 questions are somehow internet related and rest is pure details of your situation. So if you want to survey Thaivisa users on their ages, preferences, mode of transport, annual income etc details to help with insurance, visa services and other sales why not just say so and i believe people will answer more honestly myself included. TV internet connections and sms services are better promoted here on the forum as well.
parryhandy
very happy at the moment, very rarely goes off, speed could be better but I am only on the basic package so cant grumble. They even ring me up every now and again to ask me if I am happy. Who are you using? I'm with Maxnet at the moment after having used TOT for 3 years. TOT are totally useless and I was initially very happy with Maxnet (been with them for about 6 months now). They have however gone done the tube the last month or so with internet speed at a crawl. It's also very unreliable at the moment with service breaking up frequently during the day. Calling their service center is absolutely useless, all they say is that a technician will contact you shortly but they of course never call back (I've called them 6 times in 2 weeks now)! Jungian
I don't know why I would pay more for less. I have a legal TV service from the USA that uploads TV shows in the form of torrents which I would no longer be able to use.
ignis
I did the survey, but if Thaivisa are going to do a better service will it be better? I must say I am very happy with True here... In UK I bought a house out in the sticks, after 11 years on the waiting list, managed to get ADSL 4 months before moving here, the service from BT was very bad.. Here my house was built in a small Village out the sticks, At that time and still now to this day there is no other option but True.. from day 1 that is over 5 years ago True supplied 256 ADSL connection, the speed has been increased automatically a few times and about 5 months ago it went up to 3mb there has been NO increase in price just the service The odd time I have phoned Customer Service with a problem, they understood and the line was fixed or a Service repairman came out the same day. So to me the Service here is outstanding comparing it to the UK [phone BT in the UK and you get a call centre in India!!] Unill 2003 I also own a house out in the sticks in Portugal, took 9 years to just get a phone line, and after 4 years with a phone line still was no ADSL

It may not be George himself who designed the survey questions. eg on moderation there is a choice for "fair moderation" but not one for "sometimes unfair or biased moderation" which would have been one of the obvious choices given fair moderation appeared as a choice. I had a similar package with TOT before but they were consistently crap! With maxnet I did get a pretty good speed to start with, but it’s gone downhill over the last month. I would be happy to pay more for a reliable service, but not sure if Thaivisa would be able to offer that (or just the same empty promises as other ISP’s)? namoo
Is this really a internet connection survey or is it a topic used to gather information about the user base to pass on to the Nation or used for marketing / advertising purposes. Simply because everyone has issues with Internet in Thailand you get a big response. Looks very suspicious to me. What has age group. number of years in Thailand Married or not Kids?? got to do with Internet connection. If you want to do a survey for marketing/advertising or the nation at least have the decency to say so instead of using "Internet Connection" as a cover up. Another low in the commercialism of TV and tie up with The Nation. George, at least show some respect for the intelligence of your user base without which you would not have the income from the site. Don't insult us by stating it's an internet survey. Frankly it's pathetic. if I was in the mood I would complete it 100 times with fictional info just to make a point........ I actually did the survey, as my internet service with TOT is crap (only getting 18-36 mbps when I am supposedly getting 2MB ) But, though I did not object to answering the questions, it was obviously NOT internet related in the main, and was not even cleverly disguised

Tompa Maxnet in Khon Kaen.Used to be with tot when in the family village (1 1/2 years back) and concur they were very poor.Had no problems really by comparison , might be because I am on an estate less than 1km from the head office. They have just recently increased their advertised speed (basic package ) to 3mbs maybe that has caused some problems.I am a bit of a night hawk myself though and apart from weekends usually am online between 4pm and 7am and do notice it gets considerably quicker after midnight. Also was the same as Ignis above in the UK i.e. Bt broadband and concur they were useless. Edited June 23, 2009 by parryhandy
grantbkk
I have TOT and it's supposed to be 3MB. Dropped five times this morning already. Living in the last century in California and having T1 uninterrupted speed in my offices and home kind of jaded me as to internet capability. I realize I now live in the jungle and have lowered my expectations considerably. I even get a slight smile on my face when I start up and have any connection at all. Seriously, do we want these same people who are giving us substandard third world internet service to go online with nuclear power. Call the hotline to asked what all the sirens from the facility are about. "No have"; "Sorry sorry"; "Cannot tell you without permission from manager", "Preeze call later"; "Do you want new promotion?"; "Everything glowing without power is part of Government plan to give free light to poor".
