Thailand To Be Regional Educational Hub

Thailand to be regional educational hub

BANGKOK: -- An increasing number of foreign students have enrolled in Thailand’s universities, according to a senior government official.

Education officials believe this trend will continue in the future and Thailand could eventually become a higher education regional hub.

In the last academic year, more than 5,000 foreign students enrolled in some 520 international courses at Thai institutions of higher education, Prof. Pavich Thongroj, the Secretary-General of the Higher Education Commission told TNA on Monday.

This is an increase of more than ten percent from last year.

The number of foreign students enrolled in Thai institutions of higher education has increased by more than 50 percent since 2001, he said.

In addition to more foreign students, Thailand must allow foreigners to establish institutions of higher education in accordance with the World Trade Organisation (WTO)’s conditions of free trade, the professor said.

Many foreign universities believe Thailand is a suitable place to establish campuses because it is relatively safe.

FROM WHERE.WHY??

FROM WHERE.WHY??

A bit more specifics is required here :

Which universities? How many enrolments in each? What faculties or departments?

Countries of origin?

A statement like this is too general and creates a suspicion of propaganda or justification of existance.

Does anybody know where that info can bee found? I tried Ministry of Education but no joy.

edited for obvious spelling mistakes :o

Bumese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Laos, Cambodian students, I guess. :D Yeah, we need more info on this one. It sounds too good to be true here. Student exchange program, maybe? Very few Western students for sure.

Golf

I always made typos so editing is not required. :o

There were some students from Denmark at my Uni, which I understand is an annual thing.

...I suppose it was only a matter of time before THAT become a Hub, as well. Hail to the Hubologists.
