I believe it to be Hindu "higher power" that many Thai "Buddhists" I know use.

Some tell me it means "holy".

Any info would be very much appreciated.

That's สิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ (sing[L] sak[L]sit[L]) or 'holy things'. It can refer to anything from Buddhas and Buddha amulets to ceremonial water blessed by monks.

I also hear it used in blessings in everyday Thai - "khor hai sing sak-sit thang laai chuay .... "

"May all holy things/all the sacred powers help ..."

"hai yom rap sing tee bplian mai dai"

"hai gla bplian sing tee bplian dai"

"lae panha tee ja yaek yae"

could you write out that last bit in thai....?

may the lord protect and defend me... etc.... ???

have to ask my sister in law she's the old testament teacher for the high school....

Well, without knowing the original English version it would be something like:

May holy things give me peace

Let me accept things that cannot be changed

Give me the courage to change things that can be changed

and the wisdom to know right from wrong.

ข้า is a humble word for I, me (from ข้าพเจ้า).

แยกแยะ means to analyse, itemise or distinguish (good things from bad).

The last line should be

และปัญญาที่จะแยกแยะ

Thanks for pointing that out, it was a typo.

I am new to typing Thai. I never looked, the problem was that yo yak is on the same key as yo ying.

Edward, that is pretty much it. well done.

The original is something like,

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference".

Not sure exactly where it comes from, but is a very well known prayer.

There may be a better way to translate this, but it was a Thai who did it.
