Could this be a setup by Police to defraud more foreigners I ask?

Can we trust Thai Police?
That's the problem.
The ones enforcing laws are untrustworthy. I don't believe a word they say.

I don't think so, If they just wanted to party from time to time I bet no one would pay much mind. mai pen rai. but 2 weighing scales, 8000 empty drug capsules, and A GUN..

The capsules are a real bad sign, normally cut heavy stuff into them and sell, maybe to your kids. They would not be using 8000 just for themselves G D The pusher.

Sorry to hear about your friends sbaker.

Only in Thailand...a handgun, magazine, and rounds placed inches from one suspect who is handcuffed only in front, the other not handcuffed at all!!! Law enforcement circa 1950's. I was waiting for him to make a grab for it and start wasting dudes. For THAT to happen would be very Thai! The fuc_king ego of these cops here in Thailand always doing the photo op after a big arrest. Guilty intill proven innocent, or else come up with a bigger bribe. Thailand: Unbelievable, but good for a laugh.

There is either a lot of sloppy reporting done in Thailand, or sloppy police work, or both.

Ya think?

Unlikely, because that point, they're mostly pretty close to crying for their mommies, thinking that they should have quit after the first few million US$ anyway. And whoever isn't cuffed has already given up the guy who is cuffed for easier treatment.

Sorted.

LOL You're thinking like a member of the Royal Thai Police. He's facing years, maybe decades in a Thai prison...you don't think he's pondering suicide? Of course it's very unlikely, but it has happened, and will happen when they do shit like this. "Unlikely" doesn't cut it when it comes to firearms safety!

What's the deal with all the thai passports? I don't see how they fit in. If they were foreign passports I could see it, but really the girl only needed 1 extra passport.

If he is Canadian and not American , then he will be deported back to Canada to serve his sentance in a nice cell with TV , fridge etc .

Are there any Canadians in Jails here , I think Not.

If he is American he can kiss his McDonalds arse goodbye .

I trust there are Canadians doing their time in Thai prisons. Yes with good luck he will be deported back to Canada, after serving time in a Thai prison (usually 6-8 years)

if not sentenced to death!

I think his biggest battle will be avoiding the death penalty if what he was found with is true it is going to be hard to avoid the firing squad.

There's a law against that!?!?! <deleted>?

And I like how at first it's assumed he's American. Don't let our previous administration fool you, were not all criminals!

When did the thai police stop accepting tea club money? Has the corruption been wiped out? Tis is great news.

1)When it's not enough, or

2)they need a bust, or

3)they want to make an example out of someone.

I'll vote for 1) and 3) above.

since a couple of years it is lethal injection. As far as I know a foreigner (Caucasian as they call it) has never been executed in Thailand recently.

do you think the gun was loaded?

Famous last words. lol

I guess you haven't seen the video. (or don't know the first thing about handguns) It's obviously not loaded. The slide is locked back, the mag is sitting next to it, and the rounds are sitting next to the mag. It wouldn't be to difficult to load a round or two in the mag, insert it, release the slide, and in a few seconds, it's show time. Especially if someone was running interference. I could do it no problem. This would not happen with any western law enforcement agency and there is a reason for that, it's lunicy. (SOP for the RTP) There should be, at a minimum, a very sturdy zip tie run through the ejection port and out the magazine well which prevents the loading of and proper slide operation of the gun. TIT!!!

Those passports if they are for young women are worth a lot more then the drugs, Just what is this guys businesses that makes all the money and he's not even there. Investigation time again. There is most likely some thugs on the other side of the great pond. I know I am just assuming here, but given their track record to this point it warrants some interest.

And a gun thats not dismantled and pieces locked up in three places, He is lucky he's not in Canada, they would lock him away forever and drop the drug charges.

I believe this is correct as well. They don't execute foreigners in Thailand anymore.

Topic should read "Canadian," as I think the Pattaya paper actually had people on the scene and are thus a bit more likely to get it right.

7 is a bit excessive, but maybe they were dealing with excessive funds. If they were all legal passports with different names, then you'd use different passports (and identities) to hold different accounts. Then no one person is holding red flag level funds. Maybe one is a regional travel only passport, one is a Euro or North America zone travel passport, etc.

More like I'd be thinking: was I a little too greedy planting my rusty old CZ and leftover ammo in another caliber entirely on this guy? Will it be too obvious if I give my new Kimber Eclipse Pro II a wipedown during the press conference? I hope no one needs a ride home, because I got this guy's Samonites full of US$ crammed in my cruiser.

Obviously there is much more to this story. Be interesting to know who the informant was and how that person is connected to the case. There is so much we will never know that if revealed could fill a book.

When I saw the headline I knew the "setup" crowd was just a few posts away. Keep in mind that drug trafficking is a business with thousands of players and tons of drugs right here in Thailand and especially in Bangkok. The police actually do have real cases and a real informant network and at some point someone is going to be arrested and jailed. Because it's a foreigner we give it a bit more scrutiny.

Scrutiny in this case will be tons of speculation and conspiracy theory than dies a natural death in a few days. The suspects in this case are SCREWED. The amounts of drugs seized and the passports and cash (soon to disappear by the way) will make it very difficult to avoid life in prison somewhere. IMHO the girl will rollover on her foreign friend and get a bit less time. Life will go on with just another drug trafficker off the streets.

Remember: If you are in the business and think you are being targeted, you are. There is no honor among the traffickers, just business. There are a dozen reasons for the person who sold the drugs to the suspects to turn them in. The number one reason is the informant wants to avoid the death penalty or life in prison so he gives up who he can for better treatment by the system. The number two reason is money, obviously.

I guess what I'm saying is that with the millions of drug users here and around the world and being near the center of international drug trade in this hemisphere it is not too far fetched for a few of these people to get caught once in a while. Big risks equate to big returns sometimes. Not so much this time.

Almost seems they let these guys make a run and then when the money is lying around and their course is over they bust them. I also thought I read the other day that it was 10 million baht they found.

Also 1 Million Baht in cash was presented at the press conference held at Pattaya Police Station. This money had allegedly been presented to Police at the house by Mr. Barber who had attempted to clear the case. /../ They will now be held on remand pending a court appearance on Monday where they will answer charges of class 1 and class 5 drug dealing offences along with attempting to bribe a Royal Thai Police Officer.

Good on the officers for not taking the bribe.

Im sure they did.

Thing is Thailand has some of the strictest drug laws in the world yet the country has a drugs problem not many could compete with, maybe its time to look at another approach.

I bet he was paying all along, it's just they wanted more and more and more and finally he would not agree, so they took him down... Why would anyone want to be in this business? Don't they know it's just a matter of time before they get busted, what are they thinking?

Well we all know, even the liberal, that the drugs will be back in circulation already. Just at a higher price. The boys in brown and their military counterparts are the drug barons in Thailand. They probably supplied them to the couple in the first place.
