sharecropper
From PDN: LUCIFER PUB, PATTAYA SUFFERS MINOR FIRE Pattaya, July 12 [PDN]: On 12th July, as the atmosphere began to warm, a small fire broke out in the Hip Hop area of Lucifer‘s pub in Walking Street. The small fire which happened due to a short circuit, did not involve any casualties and the fire was soon brought under control by the quick actions of the pub staff. The Manager told Media, 'Fire at the dancing zone behind the stage of the band, was kept under control and eventually put out. Although there was a lot of smoke, the fire was only a small one and nobody was injured. We are now rectifying the whole thing and will be back in business by this evening.' Fire officials stated that a short circuit detected behind the stage was the cause of the fire. The Deputy Chief Officer of the Fire Department, stated, 'The fire was behind the stage mainly in the cable shaft. The cable caught fire causing a lot of smoke. We went inside but the fire had been kept totally under control by the staff of Lucifer's. [PDN] Thank heavens it was only "small" and "totally kept under control by staff". Why are they downplaying the seriousness of this fire and the safety and defective wiring issues it raises?
Chang_paarp
This part worries me; 'The fire was behind the stage mainly in the cable shaft. The cable caught fire causing a lot of smoke. That should mean a total rewire of the cable shaft, shouldn't it?
Ungabunga
If this had been a 'big' fire, then you can imagine it would be a nightmare because there appears to be only 1 way in and 1 way out. Not sure about lately, but it used to be absolutely jammed packed full of people.

nevcross
Isnt this the second such incident there in the past few months???Penkoprod I wouldn't wish to create unnecessary fear but I have long thought that the design of this club, the narrow passage from the main disco area could be a nightmare in an emergency situation, thank our Gods that nothing developed this time. Perhaps the owners could review access and evacuation and ensure it meets 'international' standards......then I might return.....well if they changed the music too...... Orac
Was this where the fire doors were found to be chained shut a few years back??
Basil B
Was this where the fire doors were found to be chained shut a few years back?? What fire exit? In the aftermath of the Santika tragic event of the 1/1/09 this establishment had considerable amount of comments slating it's lack of fire exits and that the only way out was a tight passageway. What has happened since 1/1/09 after it was stated that safety needed to improved and failing venues closed, IMHO nothing except that the people who are supposed to enforce safety have probable got a lot richer. tropo
There is no mention of evacuation or what went on inside the disco at the time of the fire. Did the patrons just keep on dancing?

Checked back a bit more on this - there are fire exits but when there was a drugs check by the police a couple of years there was a crush when people used the fire exit which lead into a narrow alleyway which had a chained gate at the end. Not sure if anything has changed since then but the place does seem to be an accident waiting to happen.
moo9
Insufficient fire exits are not a specific problem of Lucifer's (think of Insomnia) and as well not a specific Pattaya problem problem. After all driving your car or motorcyc is a much higher risk. Go figure.
