Bangkok To Petchabun By Bus

Featured Replies

Their website is down and the only other is in Thai language.

I am arriving Bangkok soon and need to travel from Bangkok to Petchabun either by bus or train.

I cannot find any timetables that list Petchabun as a destination.

Can you offer help with an English website for buses or trains that have timetables and fares for both directions ?

Is Petchabun's own airport closed or not finished yet ? I don't want to use Phitsanulok. Too much hassle.

Thankyou

David

There is no train service to Petchabun!, I do not know too much about the airport but I am pretty sure you cannot fly there with one of the internal airlines.

For the bus you want the Northern Terminal at Mo Chit. There are 2 classes of bus's - Class 1 & Class 2., Both are the Number 14 Service and the route name is 'Bangkok - Lomsak'.

I always use the Class 1 service, double decker and they run about every two hours.

The service also has 2 counters at Mo Chit, so you can ask at the info desk in the big hall. The counter for class 1 is 40-42.

Price to this town one way is 195 Baht and we are 100 Km's south of Petchabun City.

If you are flush with cash you can taxi it for about 3-4k Baht, but prepare to haggle, that's from Airport to Petchabun.

The closest train stop is Taphan Hin on the Northern Line, which is about 100km from Phetch city. I'm not sure if they have reliable minivan service from one point to the other, and back again. I've done the car hire before from Don Meuang to Phetch city, on my first trip to Thailand. It's expensive and boring unless your Thai skills are good, and there is probably a 50/50 chance of the driver getting lost if you cannot show him the exact route. If you can arrange for a pickup, the train is pretty easy. Last I heard there was no reliable air service to Phetch city. I know the OP said P'lok was ruled out, but it's not a bad deal to go there by air, if you can arrange for pickup or get a minivan ride. Many thanks to all who offered information.

Some final questions.

Can I buy a bus ticket in Bangkok for a single return journey from Phetchabun OR can I only buy this in Phetchabun ?

Are there usually (holidays excepted) plenty of seats available on the day of travel or should I buy a few days in advance ?

Do they allocate seat numbers on the ticket or is it a mad scramble when it is time to leave ?

Do they add extra buses if the demand for tickets is higher than the single bus capacity ?

Does anyone have experience of any of these situations ?

I ask because it is vital I am in Phetchabun on a specified date.

Thankyou in anticipation.

Is that the big hall on Level 3 ?

I'm pretty sure that for the class 2 buses there is a counter in the big hall on Level One.

If anybodys interested on that same level is a small left luggage shop.

Its tucked away down one end, next door to Dunkin Donuts !

thats Dunkin Donuts on level 1... not dunkin Donuts on Level 3 :)

The left luggage shop is open from 05:00 to 22:30 daily.
