Pattaya, fast becoming a place not to visit.

I got called a mouse and accused of being narrow minded for suggesting such a thing in an earlier thread, you have been warned.

Mind you it was said in the Pattaya forum, whoops.

Poor chap!!! Naught to do with Pattaya. I think it boils down to common sense and street smarts. If you are going to travel alone I think you need to be extra cautious anywhere because you are an easier mark if circumstances are right.

It's just that most times I read about murder or some nasty stuff happening it's down that way in Pattaya, be it murders, child prostitues, drugs, whatever.

I know a lot of people bring this on themselves with the murders and that by messing/investing with the wrong people, but no doubt there is a bad element of thais and farangs down there and a lot of trouble comes from it.

Don't think that's narrow minded at all, just what I see a in the news, and hear about going on down there.

Brit, street smarts help you anywhere in the world, and it seems crazy that a taxi driver got out of his taxi and managed to slit the guys throat, rather than say a stabbing. Some places you need more street smarts that most, and Pattaya is unfortunately one of them.

Poor guy, I don't understand if someone wants to rob someone else they have to kill them?

Coulda just held the guy up in a ski mask, no need for such violence.

Taxi driver admits to killing Briton

Published on March 03, 2005

A 50-year-old British man was robbed and stabbed to death on Tuesday night, allegedly by the driver of a taxi he had hired in Pattaya to take him to Don Muang Airport, police said yesterday.

The body of Normal Bernard was spotted by a passer-by along the side of a soi off the Sattahip-Nakhon Ratchasima highway at 9am yesterday. He had been stabbed 11 times in his chest, arms and hands and his head was almost severed, said Major Thossapol Somnuek, an investigator at Tambon Pluta police station in Chon Buri’s Sattahip district.

Police quickly arrested the driver, Jatuphon Bancheun, 26, at home after finding a receipt on the body from a taxi charter company. Jatuphon confessed to murder and robbery.

The receipt indicated Bernard had chartered a taxi from Enjoy Travel Soi 8 Co and left Pattaya at 7pm on Tuesday. A company spokesman said Jatuphon had only worked there a few days.
